View Full Version : Newbie, looking at a V5.
Hello all.
I've found a Toledo V5 that I'm interested in buying, there are a couple of things that I wanted an opinion on, so I guess that I've found the perfect site!!!
Is £8500.00 a good price for a V reg (09/1999) that has covered 19000 miles?
How do I tell if it's a 150BHP or a 170BHP?, (Dealer, not SEAT, seems to think it's a 170BHP!)
Why is the material (rubber??!!??) peeling off both of the interior front door handles?? Is this a common problem, can it easily be repaired?
Will I benefit from purchasing an extended SEAT warranty or a third party warranty (any opinions on third parties appreciated)
Are there any specific areas of the vehicle that I need to check before parting with my cash.....?
That's about it for now, look forward to hearing from some of you soon...
Many thanks.
Goose
I paid £7400 for a 99 with 55K - so £8500 sounds about right for a low milage example.
The dealer is talking out of **** though. The 170bhp didn't come out till 2000/1. 150bhp is a 10V - 170bhp is a 20V. Has it got sat nav ? The 170bhp has this as standard (where the 150 didn't). Also if the drivers seat has a memory function (three red buttons on the side) on the electric seat operation then it's a 150bhp - removed on the 170.
Also, I think, the electronic folding wing mirrors were removed on the 170. Not 100% on that though.
Cheers,
Stuart.
Hi Stuart.
Thanks for the reply, that is what I thought as well, until I saw a V registered 1999 170BHP Toledo advertised on the official SEAT web site., (approved used cars) Could be a typo I suppose..
I also got the dealer at the car supermarket to phone the SEAT dealer (Listers of Coventry) who did the last service, and they have also confirmed it as a 170BHP.
Confusing..........
Many thanks for your help and reply.
Goose.
I think also, on the engine cover it will show V5 on the 170bhp model, as per the VW versions, the 150bhp versions dont have a red "5". Also, the 170bhp versions have a 5 spoke alloys with flat wide spokes, identical looking to the Ibiza Cupra alloys, the 150bhp versions have 5 spokes with a hole in each spoke, similar to the Leon SE alloys, but in 16" form.
As for the peeling rubber, mine is being done under warrenty at 50k miles, its a known problem.....
Interesting indeed............
Well if it is a 170bhp that is rather confusing.
Maybe it was possible to get the 20V engine before it was made 'standard'.
If that's the case your laughing by about 2K on the book price
for a 2000 170, according to Parkers online.
Cheers,
Stuart.
Thanks all for your replies so far, I'm about to call the dealers again to verify the information that they have already passed on, I'll keep you updated.
With the car being "nearly" 3 years old, do you think I could get the door handles done under warranty?
And any thoughts on an extended warranty (Dealer or 3rd party?)
Thanks again
Goose.
Just to update you, I've been in touch with the dealer who last serviced the car, and it is 150BHP. Sorry to doubt you Stuart....
Thanks
Goose
Hey, no problem.
The 150bhp is still a very nice car. Well pleased with mine.
I would defo insist on the door handle trim being sorted out if you
go ahead. Not sure on the pros and cons of different warranties. Mine came with the standard 1 year Seat approved affair and so far so good.
Cheers,
Stuart.
Just had an even better result, because the car supermarket got the spec level wrong, they're knocking another £200.00 off the price of the car. I've also just found out that the car wasn't registered until Nov 1999, which gives me 2 months to sort out any warranty issues.
Thanks
Goose

Hi Folks
Just to set the record straight from when they brought out the 170 there is a period when you got the lot, foldy mirrors, memory seats, Sat Nav. They are lost a the same time as the Cupra when they upgraded to Thatcham 1 category alarms (I think the memory positions were needed for that so bye bye foldy's and memory seats)

Hi Goose,we've sold a couple of V5's over the last couple of months and you have got a good price there whatever the spec.
Second, before the manufacturers warranty expires spend a bit more on a SEAT used warranty from a dealer,it will cover more than the usual tat you get from a supermarket, provided the car has history.
