View Full Version : Insurance Database
After reading back through the posts about insurance on Cupra's and Cupra R's I've knocked up an online insurance database which may be usefull when shopping around for insurance. The database will enable you to see what other people are paying, who they are with, their age, points, miles etc etc etc. You will also have the oppurtunity to submit your own details.
I will let you know when the system goes live.
Thanks
Right, beta version can be found below.
To Add your quote to the database please use the link below...
http://www.seatcupra.net/addquote.php
To View the current quotes then follow this link...
http://www.seatcupra.net/quotes.php
The database is completely empty at the moment so please fill in the "addquote" form with legitimate quotes / policies.
At present the database can only hold quotes for 20VT based SEATs, I will eventually expand the database so it can cope with a wider range of SEATs but this should surfice for now ;)

P.S Feedback needed please!
We're number one deets!
Martyn, no Tesco Ins in the dropdown list, invariably the cheapest for Cupras!
Very good database, good work!

No 'Adrian Flux Insurance' in the list either. I know they're more of a broker than an actual insurance company, but they're such a large one that I think you should include them, particularly as they're performance and modified vehicle specialists (so good for Cupras!). Had to put 'Sun Alliance' instead, as Adrian Flux got me a policy with 'Royal & Sun Alliance'.

Cheers guys, thanks for the feedback. Will add a few more companies in tonight.
I've put mine on as Norwich Union although it is Norwich Union Direct and they seem to trade seperately.
Excellent idea and will be interesting to view. It might be an idea to say where you live as this has a major influence on premiums. Cambs seems to be mega cheap compaired to Cleveland where I used to live.
can you add elephant.co.uk to the list
thanks

Id also suggest adding a Postcode field?
Not a full post code, but for instance like mine is SK6
As where you live also has a big bearing on your insurance premium, some insurers may offer better or worse rates on a particular postcode area.
Couple of things:
mileage range is low, my quote is higher because it is down as 55k miles per year. Also got business use on it, which also knocks it up.
Note to people who insure as garaged. Whenever I have asked for a price difference between drive and garage there isn't any. Saves HAVING to put the car in the garage.
i'll see what I can do chaps, If there are any other insurance companies you would like added please let me know.
Any other things you think be usefull then also give me a shout.

I cant seem to access your database.. (probably this companies server), have same problem sometimes actually getting on here.
I think if you miss a forward slash/ from the end of the URL then it request that you download something from the site.
Anyways... To the point on this thread.
I get the cheapest quote through a Broker in Birmingham called Thames City.( Don't know whether this is in the database yet).
Cant remember which underwriters I'm insured by but they were £500 cheaper than anything else I'd tried myself.
They take a premium for introducing you to the underwriter but it's still way cheaper.
Cant find their number to hand.. Will go and find it..

Mart,
Might be an idea to note if the car has been modified and declared as
this clearly has a bearing on cover.
Given enough data, i can chuck it all though a few analysis proggies i have to identify the best / worst contributers to cost of premiums.

Thanks for the feedback chaps, just spent my lunchtime adding the other bits.
The form now has been updated to include higher milage, modification status, postcode and more insurance companies.
I am yet to add the extra results to the output page yet, will look at doing that tonight.
If you have already filled in the form and would like amendments made to your quote please mail me at the usual address.
Thanks again.
BTW, Im really chuffed you guys are using it.
There's some major premiums on there, glad I'm old in a cheap area! :D
Martyn, I've e-mails some changes mate.

Excellent insurance system, only problem is, the system only quotes for the 20VT versions of the Ibiza and Leon and not a mention of the 8v or 16v. I own an 8v myself and so do alot of other people and also with 16v's as well. On the bit where you get to add your own quote, there is only the choice of the 20VT ibiza or Cupra. Are the 8v and the 16v's version going to be added to the database as i know this would be a big help to myself and alot of others.
Tony, the systems only in the beta stages at the moment hence only catering for 20VT based Leons and Ibizas.
I will at some point expand the system to cater for the other engined Ibizas / Leons / Cordobas / Arosas / 'Bammers but its a big job due to all the differnt permitations.
Keep checking back for updates chaps and keep the feedback coming!
Good work on the insurance database, great idea. My insurer is Bell Direct (part of the admiral group) could you add them too?
Cheers
Chris
Great idea to see what others are paying but it does highlight some strange prices.
Would love to know how a 29 year old with points was able to get a quote through Tesco for £320 though. Best I can get at 31 with no points and full no claims is £520. Hows that worked out.
I hate insurance !

How about this Neal? I went through www.confused.com where you fill in one form and they circulate the details around various different online insurance companies. My cheapest quote was 423 pounds and my most expensive was something like 1020 pounds. There were about 10 quotes all scattered equally between the highest and lowest quote. Certainly 600 pounds seems like hefty variation considering the two companies had exactly the same info.
Thanks for that site - I've posted my details and I'll see what comes back. Modifications are a strange world to insurance people. They ask for the mods, make you pay more but then state quite clearly that they will only replace with original manufacturers parts. So whats the point in paying a premium or even advising them ? Maybe someone can shed some light. :)

Cheers Martyn, i've now put my details on it too. It was very usefull to compare the premiums, however the mileage could have done with a free space to type it, as i do about 15000/year and had to use the 10000 selector. Also the postal codes may have given even more guidance, but i suppose that was omited for security?

If you dont advise them about modifications and it comes time to claim, if they find anything on the car that you havent told them about, the whole claim can be refused. Better to tell all...

The database says it all....
The Age column vs. the Premium column - inverse proportion!

Well it would be nice to put my quote up their but still nothing is available for the 8v's or the 16v's Ibiza's!!!
All in good time my boy ;)
Getting quotes continues - 32 years old - 3 points - Silly Media Job
Best so far £935 fully comp!!
The Egg.com deal is a good one.
Reason for high quotes - I may have a big celeb in the car one day & crash & they will claim on my insurance........... Been doing this job for 14 years now & never had even a minor celeb in my car. I think it's just an excuse to fleece people like me & before somebody says the money isn't great believe me it ain't unless your Chris Tarrant etc etc

would just like to know what is happening with the 8v and 16v area for the insurance database? Martyn?
Got a lot on my plate at the moment....should be sometime soon.
Filled it in just now also, what a good idea.
I went through my old companies broker (MRIB) who beat the best quote I had by £100 with Norwich Union with the missus on it also.
Bummer was I've had company cars for the last 5 years so had no claims bonus (too many different cars/companies to get some sort of letter from them all!)
Also my excess is £120, so I put £100 for that as it was the nearest figure!
btw someone has some cheap insurance for a Leon Cupra:
31 M FC Norwich Union 5 No Yes Owner + 8000 Garage 01/09/20 £50 £000

HI Martyn
Could you add www.quotezone.co.uk to your list? Its one of those sites that compares quotes from all the different companies and shows you the results on one screen. I got about 20 quotes from it when i used it.
Cheers,
Sam
Whooaa Sam, i'd forgotten about this thread! If there is enough interest i'll recode the database.
feck me over 2 years ago, only feels like a few months :p
