Hi there,

Hope someone can help. I've got an Portable MP3 player that I'd like to connect to my stereo somehow. Is anyone aware of any auxiliary inputs on a Toledo V5 that I can connect in a line in connector too.

Either that or somewhere I can buy a FM transmitter to transmit to the radio.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Minty

Dont think the std unit will have a line-in

does it have a cd changer compat? you may be able to fit it thro there.

or a new hu such as the jvc SH series, they have a line input on the face

If its the AURA standard headunit as in the Leon (just reading can't be an AURa you have no tape unit) or the Toldeo SAT NAV set, you won't have any means of input so therefore simple answer would be a no.

If you replace your headunit there are headunits availble with inputs, or alternatively buy an MP3 ready headunit, and burn your Mp3s onto CD's. (though i guess if you have the SATNAV you don't want it taken out)

Otherwise, doubt it can be done, unless some crude way of splicing the input wires on the standard head unit, not recommenned.

The only alternative i can think of, is burn your MP3's into normal Audio AIFF's on a CD and play them thru a changer as you would conventinally.

I have a portable player connected to my rover - and that has no aux input either. Here's how :)

Buy yourself a FM Modulator - basically a small radio station in a box, with audio inputs. This box connects between the aerial input on the back of the stereo, and aerial lead itself. So, player connected to the FM modulator, all you do is tune the stereo into the new 'radio station' you've got - and hey presto!

Sound quality is acceptable - certainly better than a tape adapter. I powered the FM unit off the lighter in the car, as this is easy-ish to get to the back on in my rover. I've got the player and fm mod all in the glove, all wires behind the dash so tidy (and secure since it can't be seen)

Hope this helps :)

That would be the only way as Dangel says

But in my opinion this defeats the object of an Mp3 as a digital source, by pushing it through a FM source and turning it into analog. But im a bit of an Audiophile anyway, so thats just me.

If it works and its of fair sound quality, go for it :)

Thanks everyone for the replys.

Anyone know where I can get these FM modulators from ?

I think you'd pick an FM modulator up from any good car audio centre.

I've just logged on to ask exactly the same question as yourself. I've got an Aura CD player in my Leon. It has the option of sticking one of those Seat 6-cd autochangers into it and I know you can get a 3rd-party interface to Sony CD or MD changers - so having said that, there must be some way of making your MP3 player look like a CD/MD changer...

I'm going to go ahead and swap out the Aura for an old Sony MDX-6500R minidisk unit which has an audio in on the back. Only thing is that I'm almost certain that the Sony audio-in is a fangled thing which will only work with a Sony source unless you shell out for a Sony made interface to open up the audio-in to outsiders!

Any ideas anyone?

What about a MP3 cd changer? Some companies do one now (I know sony do one) and if you get a 6cd one it will fit in the glove box. All you need then is a 'Connects 2' cable from sony->aura when is readily available from Halfords(not cheap though).

It's a fair point - about the quality - but it's really rather good ;) Also, bear in mind that almost all MP3 players have terrible SNR ratio - except for the new Jukebox 3 from Creative.

CD MP3 changers - a good way, but again a flawed concept - why the heck doesn't someone do a hard drive based changer, with removable drive (caddy) that connects to a std. head unit. Kinda defeats the point using CD's in some respects - round peg square hole sort of thing ;)
