Please guys, help me on this one:
what's the difference between the four tdi's units (the 90, the 110, the 130 and the 150 hp), I mean, it's only a matter of chip/turbo pressure or the units are different in some other way?
For example, if I buy a 110 tdi ibiza and re-map the eprom chip (bringing the bhp to 130-140) I'll have exactly the same engine the 130hp Ibiza Cupra R has or a worser one?
And re-mapping the eprom or shifing up the turbo pressure (just a little bit, just to reach 140 hp) could lead the engine to damage in anyway or not?

I mean, if the cars come out of the industry only with turbo pressure or chip differencies, changing them by myself will not harm the engine but if the units are different in any other way, then modifying the car by myself could ruin a beautiful car,,,

thx a lot

90 Bhp, fixed geomentry turbo, 0,184 injectors (0,154 on auto)
110 Bhp, variable geometry turbo, 0.205 injectors
130 Bhp, variable geometry turbo with high pressure unit injectors (Pumpe Düse)
150 Bhp, Same as 130 I think

Like OrbNet says, including...

The TDi 150 (and maybe 130) have stronger crank, pistons, conrods and a few other bits and bobs.

I have done 23,000 miles with the chip on mine (48,0000 total), and haven't had any problems, even driving it hard.

Engines have a high degree of safety margin built in, of which Diesels are even stronger. 170bhp / 250 lb/ft should be ok from a 110 model, although a 6 speed box should then be fitted due ti the 5sp 210lb/ft rating.

Also, although chipping an Ibiza 110 to 140bhp would give it similar power to a new TDi 130 Sport, the torque on the 130 model is already alot higher due to the PD technology..... Chipping a TDi 130 should give 165bhp & 270lb/ft/

The 150 & 130 are basically the same except for the fuel mapping, max turbo boost (130 does 2.2bar 150 does 2.4bar), and I was told that the turbo on the 150 has it's paddles made of titanium. I'm not sure if there made of titanium but the turbo's whistling is quite different form any of the other turbo diesel cars I've owned.

ok guyz, thanx a lot for helpin' me,,, you've been very exhaustive,,,

But now I got another question:
I found a used Ibiza (not the version they sell now, the previous one, like the one that figures in the Amethyst banner at the top of page), a 110hp tdi, just the one I wanted, beautiful car, but the guy who owns it has changed springs and has chipped it,,,
The problem is I don't know where did he go to re-map the chip and consecutively I don't know how good the work was done,,, what do you suggest? should I buy it?
The car has 39.600 Km (approx 24.750 miles), harder springs, new chip (I don't know how many bhp it has in this way, I'll ask), seems in great conditions and goes like hell,,, another problem is that here in Italy, Rome, there aren't a lot of ibizas like the one I wanted (IMO I don't like the new Ibiza) so it has been a little hard to find this one,,, the ****er wants 10.000 Euros for it (don't know how much it is in £),,,
thx a lot

If it's any consulation I traded in my '98 110 GT TDI with 227000Km for the same 10.000 Euros. :D
1st- Check if it's a chip or a tuning box. Some people have used tuning boxs but I think chipping is much safer, plus if it was chipped the probability of it being done right is much higher. (some friends have done over 100000km with chips). If you can have the engine checked by a qualified mechanic.
2nd- Harder lowering springs are good, but they make the shocks work much more. This means that the OE shock will not last as long with the new springs. When you can you should upgrade to a sport shock such as Koni or Bilstein.
3rd- Enjoy, the 98 Ibiza I owned was a fun car to drive.
