View Full Version : Blue dial LED (Leon)

Just finished my project yesterday.

And let me tell you. I think it's much easier in the case of the Ibiza then for the Leon. It's tough, it takes a lot of patience also.

I had these things going against me:

1. First thing I noticed was that the cylinders the screws were mounted in were not as long as the Ibiza's. Instead they were about 1.5 cm long. More like the studs under a baseball shoe.

2. Second thing I noticed was that you can't let the 3rd and 4th LED stick out even a half millimeter from the back side of the frame without it hindering the reinstallation of the frame. There is also no room for the blue light to shine through in the Leon. The instrument face meets the clearplastic cover with only half centimeter clearance. And that's covered with grey plastic.

3. In the Leon there's no cover under the light switch. But you have to unscrew the fusebox on the side of the dashboard to get to the rear of the switch

4. Last hurdle I had to overcome was that the light switch does not hang out like the picture in the Ibiza how-to page. Rather the plug only barley comes out of the light switch hole (where the switch is fastend) and that's when pulling really hard. So I had to get a knife and cut the insulation. I felt like a circus contorsionist. And my hands still hurt.

But I do have some pictures on my memory stick. If anyone's interested, I can post them and help them through.

Regards,

Xander

Ok then.

Who do I need to contact regarding this?

I will start making the report and when finished I'll present it with whomever is in charge of these things.

the switch comes out just like the ibiza VERY EASILY

hold the light switch vertical - push the light switch knob in (just like when you pull it out to turn on fog lights) and turn it to the right until it stops. then it will all slide out :)

better late than never

Yeah I know. Once I firued out how to do it, ot was VERY easy.
But if you looke at the picture in the how-to, you'll notice that the switch hangs a good way down from the hole, leaving you ample space to toy with the wires. Not so in my Leon. If you look at the picture ( http://www.seatcupra.net/guides.php?descrip=Blue%20Dials )
Imagine mines wires so short that the back part of the switchbox does not even clear the hole completely. So I actually have to work with the wires, while still inside the hole!

Hi!

Sorry read all the torture you've been thru. Yes, it is a lot easier on the Ibiza. I think you should write an add on to the current blue dials article and Martyn should append it. What do you think? Are you satisfied with the result btw?

Extremely satisfied.

Especially with the two LEDs pointing directly down from over the temp and fuel gauges. Looks nice.

I'm kind'a very busy these days though, but I'll make a report.

This may be a silly question but can you just change the red lights for blue lights to get the blue dash effect?

It is possible I think but not easy. I think that the red lights in the Dash are white with a red filter in front of them. Not sure. If that's the case I dunno where to find those in blue.

May be this website can help you......

Thanx fer that mate. All a great help. I'll look in to it.
Blue dash is deffo the way to go, especially on a silver car me thinks.

It'll be well worth the effort.

Cheers.
