Hey people,

What other SEAT models have the emmisions air pump that makes your car sound like a sherpa van on cold start up ?
Does the 20VT have it too ?

Is anyone else's running at this time of the year (ie. mornings and after work) ?

Most post year model 2001 engines have it. It works every cold startup between 5-30 deg (EURO 4 ECU) OR 15-30 deg (EURO 3 ECU).

Thanks primekart,

Good to know the pump is working when it is supposed to.

I have also dicoverved that the car sounds a lot quieter on cold starts if the output pipe from the pump is actually attached to the engine !

If the pump is not working, or the input/output pipe is not connected, the ECU will write a fault in its memory, a "Check Engine" sign might light up also, usually because the system is interconnected with the vaccume system!

Interesting.

Had a full diagnostic done last week (while pipe was off) - no faults found.

The only thing the disconnected pipe seems to cause is the car sounding like it has no exhaust while the pump runs. I guess there must be a valve that opens when the car is supposed to be taking secondary pumped air ? Hence the engine noise coming straight out from the open intake ?

Maybe it's a different system on newer engines.
