Sill strips - can I fix stick-on ones directly to paintwork?

Hi - I'm a newbie and just got a Seat IBIZA SX (mk 4)and I was looking around Halfords the other day and I saw some aluminium sill strips that would look really nice on my car and help protect the paint work from being scratched. However reading the instructions it appears that they are supposed to be stuck to the existing metal strips. As my car doesn't have any - can I stick it to the paintwork or will I risk damaging the car?

yep stuck to the paintwork will be fine, use some of the type of thin foam used for sticking number plates then you can remove later if needed.
