What are people's experiences of the following chips, please make any comments as well as voting, and post about any other company.

Thanks

just a suggestion, but you not had many replies cos its not multichoice.

You see, people have had good and bad experiences from each company and they have chopped and changed accordinaly, thats why I thought a multichoice would be the better option then peeps could comment. :)

APR are doing very well, Jabba - one good and one bad - Jabba are very tempting at the moment to me after speaking to a mechanic at local SEAT garage, i'd be interested to hear why someone has had a bad experience.

Also, the people who have voted for AMD, can you tell me more? What sort of power figures are you producing with AMD chip - they have told me to expect 200 Bhp+. Is the service any good.

Any comments appreciated - we are in a good geographical position to go APR (Stealth), or AMD, which aint too far in Bicester. Jabba is a bit further, but may be worth it???

And RSD.....well they are just too expensive.

after seeing the Resukts APR look excellent!!!!! However im leaning towards jabba cause of the unique individual mapping as im planning other mods, i.e. new turbo etc!! Apr doens't do this does it???

Nope but APR does use an adaptive program, that well basicly adapts to different characteristics sensed by the ECU, fueling and air etc.

Whenever something changes, ie new Exhaust, New Air filter, you just use the Throttle Body Adaption program, to do a quick recalibration.

Plus anytime APR come up with new curves, maybe better the remap they originally created, it is a free upgrade.

AmD also do remapping to the car, as Jabba do. At the end of the day they all do, give or take a little differance, the same thing.

Choose what you think is best for you, take into consideration, price, feedback from other users, and how convenient they are to you, if you have an issue, is it a long way to travel?

Whichever you go for, you'll get a healthy dose of power, that i have no doubts.

Weigh up the options and make an informed choice. :)

I like the sound of APR but i think i will get more power out of jabba with planned future mods. Travelling is not an issue as both are 2/3hr drive and price is comparible (jabba being cheaper) only difference is jabba has adjustable boost and apr switchable proggies... so i dunno

Stealth told me this:

Firstly, can you tell me the expected gains from just the ECU upgrade, in Bhp and torque terms, and also if you have had any problems with the AYP engines, as opposed to the earlier AQX engines.

"The BHP + Torque between the two codes are much the same."

I understand that you do an additional program which allows switching between 98 and 95 RON petrol. I always use Optimax, which is 98-98.5 RON I think, therefore would aboviosuly like to benefit from the extra power this can give. Is it essential to have the additional 95/98 program to benefit from using Optimax?

"Re-chip cost £449.00 (program of your choice 95/98 for eg)

to have it switchable uou will need cruise control £195.00

1st additional program £99 extra

2nd, 3rd, 4th programs £50 each

Hope this makes sense?
Call me if you need further info

Stealth's reply in quotes.

I am awaiting their response as to what power I can expect.

Stealth are only 15 mins away - Jabba, 1 1/2 hrs. These 2 are favourite now I think - liked the look of AMD but not too many recommendations either way on them.

I don't agree at all. Why pay more and basically get nothing extra. Basically you pay over £500 for a warrenty that appears worthless when you have a problem. Before you argue, those with no problems are happy but then so are the rest of us with other chips and no problems. The reputation of a company has to be built on the service given to customers and I've only heard of bad service from RSD up to now.

So I go back and say what do you get for the extra money.

I've had 6 months and 6-7K of trouble free motoring with Jabbasports chip and some of that very hard driving.

I don't see any comments from those with bad experiences, although I will say the Upsolute chip I had wasn't as good as the Jabbasport one, less mpg and less torque/power. However most will give approx 200BHP and 220lbs/ft torque, so your choice really

APR got back to me - expect approx 193 Bhp after remap.

This makes it difficult - Jabba seem to get 200+, if what I hear is right, but APR have a lot of satisfied customers, and are very near.

APR have reduced their prices recently. If they are close to you that is always an advantage if the unthinkable happens. Your choice really, give Jabba a ring to put your mind at rest, the more info you have the better.

I have a 2002 cupra and thinking of having it chipped by Jabba. (My brother had work done on his G60 there they were very good and sorted out the only problem it had with no fuss).

When speaking to them they rekon that most AYP engines that he has had in have been down on power (as low as 145bhp) and the chip will give around 185-190bhp, from what it seems the final figure depends on what your car starts with, it would appear the gain is all ways the same (around 40-45bhp ish).
