View Full Version : Peoples thoughts on the 110tdi SE??
I have never considered a densal as a car for me, mainly because of the usual problems i.e the noise and smoke, but after my last trip to Seat for my service the sales chappy offerd me a test drive as i was slagging the SE in favour of a cupra sport:rolleyes:
How supprised was i on the first proper second gear foot to the floor moment;)
I spent a good half an hour ragging this poor thing and realy enjoyed it.
But best of all when i had first got in the car the fuel warning had beeped:rolleyes: penny pinching Seat for you;)
It lasted a good half an hour of beasting without ever dropping into the red:)
So to cut a long thread a bit shorter a friend has offerd me a good deal for my current car and i'm seriously thinking of buying a SE but honestly what Good and BAB points have you had with your SE's and do upsolute chips show up on services etc.. Worried about warranty as the car will be doing 100 miles a day
Thanks for reading this thread and for any and all replys:cheers:
Leon or Ibiza?
Have driven the 110bhp Ibiza & had a right laugh in it
apart from the handling
Miridor -
It's a great car :)
Same suspension as 20VT, and with 5-speed box lighter than the 6-speed it's not nose heavy.
I upped to 16"s so I reckon my '02 TDI is much like a '02 20VT in terms of handling.
50mpg easy.
Will PM you with more details.
:)
I just picked up a new 52 registered MY2003 TDI SE last Sunday and I love it. Good acceleration, great handling, 48 mpg on my first tank but that should improve as it runs in. A bit noisy when idling but smooth and quiet when cruising. Anyway, I love the diesel sound :)
After reading about leaky doors I was a bit worried but it rained heavily all day today and nothing came through. Maybe they've fixed the problem on new models.
Hi Mark how you doing i was looking for you at Trax shore your motor but no you :( Your car is looking more like a track day only car every time i see it;)
I like the harneses, i would have called you but i havn't got your number anymore because some thieving be-atch nicked it
"Leon or Ibiza?"
The Leon mate...
Thanks again Mik for the pm , but what problems have you experianced with your car i hear alot of people moaning about paint for instanced.I just want to go in to this knowing more than the dealer (not realy that hard i know lol)
:D
God and bad points..............
Mmmm, bad points..!!!!!
1. Detached rear washer pipe
2. Peeling interior door handle......
3. Handling on SE and Cupra no where near standards of Ford Focus / Vauxhall Astra etc.
Good points........:D
1. With upsolute chip....very quick.... Ask PipSqeak111, I kept with his Cupra from 30mph to 127mph......
2. 54mph on holiday in scotland (with chip)
3. 42-45mpg in normal every day lead foot mode.
4. 36mpg when towing 1700kg trailer.
5. Dealer can't see chip on computer equipment (VAG1551/2), I had mine fitted at 22,000 miles, now done 49,000 miles..... Planning to keep car to 200,000+ miles
Bought a TDi (after testing Cupra)
I do 500 miles a week and it does stack up on the mileage. I'm currently on 26k and so far no leaks (unlike others) or other problems. My only gripe is the paintwork, and its sort of assumed that Imperial Blue seems to be worse than others
My normal commute is motorway and if I'm in a rush then I'll average anywhere from 42-50. If i'm being more sensible then anything in the fifties. If I'm really careful and sit on the inside lane all the way then I can get about 60!
No warranty claims (although I will be asking about the paint quality) and a very happy customer
Imperial Blue isn't the only bad colour for stone chips.....
Think some of you have seen this picture before taken at about 40,000 miles a few months ago. Its now on 50,000 and even worse...:(
Paint is worring:(
Think i would go for the Platium Silver or the Black Magic (as i have know)
What are the physcicall dirrerance between the 110bhp and the 130bhp TDI's bigger turbo differant ECU ect..(the one in the ibiza new shape)
And some people keep talking about "PD" engines whats that when its at home:confused:
Cheers Guys
PD = Pump Deuse = improved injection system. Each cylinder has its own pump, I think!
TBH if a diesel R or Cupra was available I would go for it instead of a petrol. Torque, economy and residual value being the main factors.
I dont think each cylinder has its own pump, but the injection pressure is higher than in older engines. I did see a web page somewhere that described the pd engines - cant remember where it was now though !
i got a full tech manual here if you ever get insomnia
PD engine will bring you VERY expensive oil changes and a few teething problems too - will iron out soon
as PD as well - 150bhp limit - go higher GO BANG
stick to the 110 sdi SE - and get a 130 ish chip
only downside - runs outta puff a bit early - but all the rice rockets are well behind by then any way
;) get a red TDi badge on it if chipped - upset wll them golf/passat owners lol
flapper you say if you have a 110 get 130 chip - but the most popular chip is the upsolute one which give 150+.
130pd engine - APR say that they are seeing approx 180+bhp from their chip. Obviously that sounds interesting to me (am getting 130tdi next week) but am interested in hearing about any problems people have had when chipping these relatively high powered diesels. I have looked at tdiclub.com but that seems to be mostly americans chipping their 90bhp tdis.
DaveP, try www.vwvortex.com - they might be what you're looking for.
I'll be interested to see what you get from the 130 - I mean if it's 180. :D:D:D:D:D:D
Thanks mark, will have a look.
APR email - "VW/Audi...183bhp and 255lbft have been the norm..."
think they are chipping an Ibiza this week, also adding cruise (or just looking into doing it).
Does sound VERY interesting!
Taken a look - only about 5 hits when I do a search :(
I guess I need to learn german, sure to be lots of info then!
Next question peeps was thinking that it would be nice to have a leather interiour has anyone seen the leather's as all the dealers that have the SE in around me have only the cloth which is boring.
The big question is it worth £1200 for two leather seats?? (the back are vinly)
Leather is not an option. Only option (on tdi sport) is sat-nav.
Europe has cruise, leather, xenon, etc. No idea why these are not available in the UK.
The demo @ bryan bros bristol has ESP on the button by the gear lever - I asked them if it did have ESP? He said no, not available. So I wondered aloud why the button has ESP on it when the other demo I had tried elsewhere had TCS on it? He didn't seem to want to say that the factory cocked up (of course it could have been an import...... ).
Think your thinking of the Ibiza:confused: decided that the Ibiza is to small and decided ona Leon which does have the leater as an option! I can't see why the options arn't stanard across E.U as they all come from the same factory:confused:
i was - that is because I am thick.
I was thinking about putting the 110 tdi engine in my 1.4, does anyone know what cars i can get this engine out of that will fit relitavely easily, Mk3 golf etc? My dads a mechanic so theres no worries on the fitting front. Can all the 110 tdi engines be chipped?
Its just a thought as i need better fuel economy, more torgue and my cars fairly modified and dont want to lose the actual car!
Cheers

O.k. man everybody has told his own and I'm just gonna say mine 'bout my (beautiful) Ibiza Tdi.
Well, I got it used (40.000 kms) with re-mapped chipped (132hp) and springs.
The little rocket goes like hell (it is true although that previuosly I had a 45hp [yes, 45!] Fiat Uno!!). With springs it handles very very well and it's kind of difficult to bring the car to its very limits.
Someone talked 'bout the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra or Vectra(which in the rest of Europe are sold under the Opel brand). Never drove one of them but just look to declared specs to get an idea. High engine cc with very low hp and what 'bout fuel consumption?
As for me, I'm still lookin' for a 1.9 td of other brands to beat me on 1/4 mile-like traffic light acceleration,,,
"No confrontation, left in my dust they'll never learn".
Now 'bout fuel consumption: I just had my 500+ kms with a filled fuel tank (36 euros in Italy) in urban cycle and still waitin' for yellow light. Can't wait to go for a trip!!
As for the Leon/Ibiza choice, that's only a matter of size u need.
But remember: the smaller the car, the faster the engine, the more is the fun!!!
