View Full Version : Foggy!
This thread bears no relation to the great 4 times WSB world champion!
The nights are drawing in, and so is that fine mist that comes down all over the car and knackers up all that hard polishing that you spend 5 hours doing! But the condensation problems seem to be getting worse.
Sometimes as the front screen mists up, I direct the air flow to the screen and it mists up even further! Switch air-con on and all is fine, but as soon as I switch it off, it's up to its misty tricks again.
Is this a Cordoba trend or is there something mad going on? :dunno:
Something in mi 'ead is saying that we've come across these things before, but I can't put my finger on it.
Cheers...

definately. as long as ive had my cordoba, its impossible to keep the window clear without air con turned on, unless you are on top heat burning to death!
It annoys me!

never had that problem at all. mines a sep 99 2.0 16v
Not exclusive to Cordabas or Seats. Both my Cav and the gf's Focus suffer from this too. Not very clued up with air-con systems, but I believe the air-con 'scrubs' away the moisture, leaving a very dry air stream which is more efficient for clearing windows

Mmm, I think I'm going to have to approach the dealer on this one (begrudgingly). Are there any filters that can trap moisture, thus when the air-con is on, the moisture level is much less due to the dehumidifier, and then it gets moist when switched off? There sometimes can be a little bit of a wiff when it's switched off too.
Weird!
If there is moisture about, it wouldn't be unfeasable to get hold of some silica gel, the stuff they package with computers etc to keep them dry, it attracts and holds moisture.
So i suppose placed around the interior of the car in certain locations for a few weeks, could potentially get rid of excess moisture.
Its an idea, but one that could possibly work well.

Hope this helps.....
Air conditioning does dehumidify the air i.e. it takes out the dampness. Unfortunately the moisture has to go somewhere and you will find a puddle of water on a hot day underneath the bulkhead area on the floor.
Sometimes the drainage hole can become blocked or partially blocked and some condensed water will lay in the bottom of the heater / air conditioner box. In the worst case this can come out of the floor level heater vents if the level gets too high. In the best scenario it just sits there and goes stagnant - hence the pungent smell.
Try poking a bit of hard flexible hoseing up the drain hole and try to dislodge any blockage. DO NOT GO TOO FAR THOUGH AS YOU CAN DAMAGE THE CONDENSOR UNIT.
When you use the a/c to dehumidify make sure you are not on recirculate. When you use the a/c for maximum cooling use recirculate.
If that doesn't cure it you'll have to book it in to a dealer / specialist.
Cheers mate, I'll give that condenser dufer a lookin.
Correct me if im wrong peeps but aircon works by cooling a matrix and then passing the air over this which conducts the heat and moisture away.
The problem you get is when you switch the ac off the moisture remaing on the matrix then gets blown into the car and steams your window up again:( Catch 22 ;)

I'm not in to correction - I leave that to Toonman!
You're not wrong, but that will last for only a couple of seconds, Its the fact its not draining away why it lasts longer.

heres a tip, leave your windows open slightly when your driving, it keeps a healthy swirl of air and keeps everything moving, if the inside isnt so different (temp wise) then the condensation wont appear. i had that problem with a nova years ago and thats how i got rid of it as the hot air took forever to heat up in the morning.
make sure ya pollen filter aint loose
other wise grad some newspaper and CLEAN YA WINDOWS
99% of misting will dissapear quicker with CLEAN glass
sounds wierd i know - but works for me EVERY TIME
i ain't got a/con but get steamy windows in the winter, only cure is to open the windows, clears the window but my daughter moans she's cold catch 22 again, and before anyone says it i don't have pop out rear windows either:rolleyes:
