View Full Version : Slow tacho
Has anyone else found that their tachometer cant keep up with the speed that the engine revs at?,
It seems to have too much damping on the needle and in first and second my engine can be redlining and on the rev limiter before the tacho needle has even reached 5k!!,
I have always driven cars on the tacho reading for my gearchange indication and find it a real pain to have to wait for the rev limiter as the first indication for changing gear:confused:
Has anyone found a fix for this of is this fault unique to my car! ?

hmm - Don't seem to have this problem myself on my Leon Cupra. If anything it is the actual speedo that plays catch up.. If I floor it just in first gear up to the red line and then just put the clutch in (On a flat road), by the time I hit the clutch the car is doing 35mph, but the speedo carries on accelerating to just over 40mph... Wether this is just due to the inertia of the car or what I don't know...
Anyway - do cut a long (And boring) story short - I don't notice any problems with the tachometer, so maybe it is just your car.. (Mine is the 2002 model of the Leon Cupra if that makes any difference between your car and mine)

Maybe you've been short changed and have a diesel lump under the bonnet:D
But seriously, I can't coment as mine is a derv, but my Speedo does play catchup in first and second.

Hmmm, strange..., i will check out my speedo, but i havent noticed my speedo lagging behing,
I have noticed that it is between 2-6 mph out in its reading depending on hte speed of course!!, I have a gps in my car that gives an accurate reading of my current speed to 0.2 mph accuracy,
I will get the garage to check out my tacho on its next service i think, it is a MY2001 model so maybe they uprated the tacho on the MY2002 model

Don't worry about the speedo... 2 - 6mph out ins't that bad... Speedos are normally a fair bit out...
I remember my old Hyundai - got caught speeding on the motorway thought I was caught doing 115mph ( As per speedo), but when I was in the back of the cop car, his gun said "only" 101mph... I was quite relived to be honest with you - but still got a 2 week ban!
