View Full Version : More Mods...
I'm very happy with my Ibiza with its 210 RSD conversion, but I'm just curious about what else I can do to it...
Does the 6 Speed Gearbox from the Leon fit in the Ibiza? If so then would there be any benifit?
Does anyone do any kind of Paddle/sequential/semiauto/Tiptronic gearbox for the VAG group that would fit into an Ibiza?
SJBSport do a 240 and even a 300bhp conversion for the Ibiza (Using Amd). Do RSD offer any additional power boost over the 210 conversion?
Not that the car needs it though... the 207bhp is too much for first gear (Not enough grip), 2nd is good and by the time you reach the high revs in 3rd gear its already time to start slowing down or loose your license!
DreamModeOn:
Are there any other cars built on the Ibiza platform that support 4wd? If so then would it be possible to fit their 4wd system to an Ibiza? Fat chance..... maybe if I had a spare 10k or something!
DreamModeOff.
I just wondering what sort of stuff is out there... I had a 306 before and there were very few mods out there, just the normal suspension kits, induction kits but that was about it!

RSD don't do any more than 207 as the Ibiza is getting a little dangerous. K04 turbo is a must beyond their 207 without sacrificing reliability from the K03. It can be done, but you have to ask yourself, would it be driveable? would it be reliable?
207 with stock suspension is an accident waiting to happen IMHO.
300bhp through front wheel drive would be a real handfull, and I doubt whether the g'box would last long.
Ask poor old Maurice Reeves, as his 300bhp MK1 Golf 20VT crashed at Combe saturday, making a right old mess. He was OK thankfully and he is a very skilled and experienced driver. The car is a handfull. Wheelspin in 5th !!!! (6 spd box)
You can get a fully sequential quiafe box for £7500 + £1000 for the gear change mechanism. Mucho money, noisy straight cut, and certainly not a daily driver.
I like the 5 spd in the Ibiza.. The ratios suit the car well I think. Long ratios, but the motor pulls them with ease.
You bored already Ben?? I thought you already had every option avaialble :)
regards
Bill
No, not bored! In fact very happy that I can start to put my foot down a bit now that I've done 1500 miles!!!! :)
Trouble is that I just sit in traffic jams all the time (Work too near to London!). :(
Also, winter is coming now so I wont be able to have any real fun until spring! :(
That gearbox will have to wait a while.... a long while!!! ;)
What colour was that Golf that crashed?
I saw a black one I think that seemed amazingly fast and reached the corners at a scarey speed. Not much runoff at Combe and I thought you could do alot of damage to both yourself and your car if you lost it.!
Glad to hear that the driver was OK, but was the car completely written off?

Ben,
guess what, some new stuff will be arriving at RSD soon.
1. Sequential gearbox.
2. 6 Speed gear box.....which could be linked to the Sequential system.
You could add some muppet things like Single Wiper conversions.
Bigger AP Racing brake set up.....
Intercooler, Oil Cooler, Bodykits.....etc etc....
But i think you're like me...all out performance nutter!
Lee so you are saying that
ap brakes and interccolers are muppet mods...
this sequential shift are you sure it is not semi sequential.
Cause if it is then its not a new product cause there are a few retailers doing this already including John.

Ben, would have thought some new wheels would be the next obvious thing on your list, got any in mind yet?
My 7x16 Speedlines have arrived, can't wait to get 'em fitted. Same diameter as the stock wheels but wider and I've got some 205/45 F1 rubber for them. They are also a nice sparkly silver, unlike the dull almost grey finish of the standard alloys.
Bill, what wheels are you running on yours?
Yeah, wheels are next... I'm staying with 16s as you lose a bit of acceleration with 17s (You could open the gearbox and adjust the final drive to compensate but I'm not doing that!).
Can't decide whether to go for 7x16s or 7.5x16s... been looking at Bills 7.5 width wheels and they are very close with the PSS9s on. Unlike Bill I often have a full car so rubbing would be a concern.
I don't have any actual wheels in mind yet... got to pay off my overdraft, credit card etc etc first! :(
Lee... yes, I'm interested in performance not really cosmetic stuff... I'm very interested in the sequential box though. Got any details? Price? When will it be available?
Cheers,
Ben

As far as i know...this is a fully sequential system being developed by someone with RSD's help.
Price.....currently estimated at 2k.
Dave.....No, i just meant the Single wiper kit! AP's and intercoolers being performance enhancing jobbies i would class as Evoesque and NOT Muppetty!

Mine on the car at the moment are 7.5x16 ET35 TSW Stealths refinished in matt black.
Tyres are 205-45-ZR16 Goodyear Eagle F1's.

Very informative site......
I would be interested to try one of these first.

That seqshift looks interesting but it seems a bit clunky in the videos... not exactly a quick shift. Has anyone tried or seen a car with this on?
Bill, if your running 205x16 tyres on your 7.5x16 wheels then would you say running 225x16 on 7x16 wheels is dangerous? Just wondering coz someone else on this forum has 225x16 on 7" wide rims!!!

I personally would'nt run that combo, but then again I would'nt run SEATs combo of 195-45 on 6" rim either.
When running 225's on a 7 inch rim the sidewall is going to be flex'd inboard (just like the std combo 195 on 6")
Depending on tyre make and whether the tyre has a bead protector sidewall, the stiffness of the sidewall is going to contribute to more "slop" and move around more on the rim under cornering loads. Bead protectors are stiffer on the sidewall. This won't have as precise or tight a turn in as a more closely matched wheel/tyre width combo.
I run 195's and 205's on my 7x15 competition wheels and 205 sits about as far as I would want on a 7" rim.
Each to their own.... but fatter tyres does'nt always mean more grip.

Bill, what tyre size would you run on the standard Seat rims then?

185's....
On the Ibiza it desperately needs a 7J rim as std.. IMHO.
That and spacers for the rear to get the rear track width right.
195's or 205's sit well on 7J rims.
On the Mk2 veedubs, they came out with 185-60-14 tyres on 6J rims, which is about right.
The 16" rims with such low profile 45 series tyres exaggerates the difference in width between the tyre and the rim, more so than 185-60's on 14" rims.
Pirellis on mine had the bead protector which helped stiffen the sidewalls which is a good thing. 6x16 is such an odd wheel size... Why Seat why?
