Not Seat ICE related but hear go's:

My Dad's radio need replacing (Merc CLK). Have had confusing info regarding the Nak units:
Dad wants the 6-disc in dash MB-75, but have been told they have a fragile disc mechanism, and are slow. His local ICE shop recommends the single dash receiver + changer (not sure of references but something like mb-45 + mb-51) which of course is much more expensive. The shop also added that the output stage on the seperate single cd player is much better than the MB-75 (for latter upgrading)??

I really can't find any info/reviews on the headunits. Is it true that the mb-45+mb-51 is better than the mb-75 or is the difference minute.

Thanks

Darryl

I've heard quite a few cars with the MB75 and liked it. Yes the CD mech is quite noisey but thats only when changing disks. From what I can remember the MB75 has a 2V preout. Providing you don't suffer from noise and use good interconnests 2V is plenty, you'll just have to tweak the gains. The more expensive multi disk HU has a separate outboard unit and so has some nice features built in as well as a high preout (5V if memory serves well). The single disk HU are also very good. I looked at the CD700 but went for the Alpine 7969 as I needed the built in EQ at the time. Best to take some well known material down to your local dealer and have a good listen.

Have a look at http://www.nakamichi.com/ for more info.

The CD700 was £1500 when I was looking and it doesn't have a removable faceplate so its always sitting there saying 'nick me'. Unless you make a cover for it. I didn't get a chance to do a straight AB between the Alpine and Nak but the Alpine has blown away all other HUs that I've ever had. I also like the Phantom Face aswell.

How about a MacIntosh? Looks stock in the right car.

My Dad has set a budget of 2200 euros which has to include the headunit, front a rear speakers and a 10"sub. All speakers are MBquart + I'm giving him a Alpine MRV-T500 amp for the sub (from my beeza install). The MacIntosh is out of the question due to budget.

The amber color looks great with the Merc interior (actually would look good in the toledo as well);)

I'll be ICEing as well but only starting next year. I'll be going for the Rockford or maybe an Alpine HU. Do all Alpine HU switch button color from Green to Amber?

Not too sure if all do have the colour change, just have a look through there catalogue. The 7969 I have has an RRP of £800 but managed to get it when it had only been out for a fews months for £525. It blows away Kenny HUs.

BTW why do you want rear speakers? A good set of comps up front and a 10" all driven by a amp should sound good. Have you bought the MBQs yet?

I think the rears are for fill only. The ICE dealer has them in stock:
Premiums up front & Reference rears. I think the idea is to eventually amp the front speakers and leave the headunit to power the rear fill speakers.

Had a look at the Alpine site. The CDA-7893R looks like it's my pick (actually the CDA-7998R looks hot but I'm sure it's big $$$$). It's got MP3 playback which is a good thing for me (just burn those dance track on to a CD and bingo). Still haven't figured out why so many manufactures make aluminum colored face plates.
The Rockford's also have MP3 playback + the red backlit buttons would look great in the toledo.

If you didn't have any rear fill (and not needed in my opinion) you'd have more money for better quality front comps.

I see your point:)
I would guess that Dad could just use the OE rear speakers and
ugrade the front??
Still trying to put it together (in my mind that is). The CLK has a bit less interior room (than the Toledo), but wouldn't it still sound like shit in the rear (not that it's important)??

Thats the way I'd do, use the OE rear speakers. They'll be faded so low anyway ( I hope) that you probably won't notice. Then at a later date if you feel they are really bad you can change them.

What you've got to remember is that the singer/band/group is supposed to be infront of you.

the mb75 has a noisy changing mechanism and its also a bit slow
the mb100 is a lot better this costs around £1000 pounds retail
but im sure if you bought a few other bits and pieces you could strike a deal somewhere
both nakamichi head units will comfortably out-perform the alpine units for sound quality but the alpine units win no contest for features
nakamichi units have very little in the way of features.
my advice would be to buy the mb100 this is a far better unit
for use and also internally you will have to find a little extra room for the unit as it has an off-board dac which also has some basic eq controls on it
this unit may be a little more than your father was willing to spend
but i assure you he will definately be able to tell the differance
when it is in his car
if you would like any more information please e mail me

Nakamichi MB-100

Alpine MRV-T420 (new to drive front speakers)
Alpine MRV-T500 (from my beeza bridged for sub)
Infinity Beta 10 sub (also from the beeza)

Nothing for rear fill.

Genesis, could you tell me where the best place is to purchase Nakamichi gear. I can only find one place that seems to sell it and are only giving £60 of RRP.... which on £1000 is not much of a discount.

Thanks

if your only interested in sound quality then Nakamichi is definitely the way to go. My dad and I are now planing to move into the car;)

if U want good sound quality and some features then U might want to go with an Alpine or Clarion.
