Hi I am about to get a Leon Cupra R and was hoping someone may be able to answer a few questions.

I have a Kenwood KDC 6080r which I am sure has two inputs for dick changers. Now the Leon comes with a tape head and a 6 disck changer in teh glove box.

Question 1: Can I cannot a non Kenwood Disc changer to a Kenwood head?

Question 2: If I take out the 6 changer from the glover box and have my 10 changer put in the boot. Does it leave an ugly mess in the glove box?

Question 3: How shite is the Leon head/disk changer?

Cheers in advance

Jamie

Jamie,
I (only) have the std cupra but have found the STD CD changer to be OK. I have also found that the std speakers seem to do the job, But I'm possibly not the best judge cos my hearing is a little battered from too many noisy ACID house rave parties in the late 80's early 90's. (plus pleading ignorance when the girlfriend starts to whinge).

In answer to your 2nd question, If you found the mess intollerable, you could possibly get a glove box insert from a non cupra model as they don't have the changer fitted as std.

Cheers for that - I am probably going to wait and see how it sounds - it just urks that at the time I spent a load of money on the Kenwood and it would be nice to bring it with me....!

:D

I was determined to ignore it due to my own quality spelling mistakes. But I also had to read it twice to make sure I'd read correctly.

Alpine Fitted here in my pics, you can also see my Alpine 6 disc changer fitted.

http://homepage.mac.com/zboyd/PhotoAlbum2.html

Was a tight squeeze, though you do have a bit of room top and bottom for taller units. Im sure a 10 disc would fit if its no wider than a 6 disc unit.

Only thing we had to do, was the black clip off rim around the changer, needed to be slightly shaved inside it so it would fit round the Alpines front. Can't be seen though as you can see.

Not sure if you can make the Grundig changer work with a Kenwood Headunit, there maybe some adapters.

Try Car Audio Direct (http://www.caraudiodirect.com)
and Autoleads (http://www.autoleads.co.uk) for the facia adaptor.

If its a Kenwood 10disc changer, then I dont think its going to fit in the glovebox. I use to have one and it fitted the Golf Mk3 with about 2cm to spare. Leon isnt as big

Taking the glovebox apart you can see there is quite a bit of room top and bottom its how you mount it really.

There is no way you'll get a bigger one in there though without completely disassembling the Glovebox, and fitting it in from behind.

Not for the faint hearted, but can be done, and with no damage either, the only thing we had to fettle for the Alpine was as i say the black surround. everything else is as it was.

We worked out after measuring an Alpine 10 disc, that it would of fitted, there was enough top and bottom to accomodate it, and as it was the same width & depth as the 6 disc, so that wouldn't of been a problem either.

But beware some 6 discs are a lot wider than the factory unit, so will never fit, their just isnt enough width to accomodate anything bigger.

I asked 'caraudiodirect.com' the same question, HTH:

Unfortunately you would not be able to add an MP3/CD changer that will be compatible with the changer.

How much are you looking to spend on the CD/MP3 and DAB?

Subject: Seat leon Head unit

Hi,
I have a Seat leon Cupra R, which has the factory fit 'Aura' head unit, which is made by Grundig, & CD autochanger - make unknown.
I would like to replace the head unit to a CD/tuner which is mp3 compatible, possibly upgrading to DAB at the same time.
Would a replacement head unit work with the changer (head unit uses ISO connectors), or are different makers units incompatible with each other?
Best regards

I'd just like to but in and say that i think the speakers in the Leon are excellent. You have 4 large good quality door speakers and 4 tweeters as well. Attached to my Sony head unit i can turn it up to as loud as i'd like (you can't hear anything but the music) in rock, vocal and dance tracks and suffer no distortion. It's espetially good with dance tracks. Unless you actually want to let everybody know your prefrence for music, the supplied speakers in the Leon are brilliant.
