View Full Version : What Alarm?
When I finally get my Leon Cupra (Still waiting for it to be produced - 21 weeks now!) I'm going to fit an aftermarket alarm/immombiliser. Does anyone know of any good mags or websites where I can compare features or read reviews?
Can anybody recommend a model? (other than Kate Moss, etc.)
Ideally I'd like one that has the intelligence/features that will stop false alarms.

Hi Riggy,
First off, glad to see your joining the Cupra ranks (even if your still waiting!). As my beezer already had a CAT2 alarm/immobiliser, I went for a 2:1 upgrade which adds ultrasonics and improved protection (not to mention CAT1 status). The model I got was an Autowatch 160rl installed for about £300.. It has plenty of security features such as remote link siren and last attack notification. If your looking for something that will provide good overall protection and not go off every night then I can recommend it but if you want bells and whistles...go with a Clifford.....

Cheers for the info Tone. I've got a Cobra Cat 1 system fitted on my current car, and it has a nasty habbit of going off at the quietest point of the night. Meaning that I have to rush down stairs, half asleep to get the keys, usually falling down the last few steps in the process. Got so fed up with it, that I usually don't bother arming the alarm overnight, just rely on the immobiliser. I need my sleep!

Mmmmmmm sleep, I could do with some of that about now! I've known a few people who've had similar problems. I think in a lot of cases its down to where you get it installed and configured. Mine so far (touch wood) hasn't gone off on a false alarm. In fact I even tested it just to make sure! Your best bet is to try and find the best fitter near you or even get a specialist who comes to you - can cost a bit more but you know thats all they do day in day out.

I found that it was nearly the same price to have a full cat1 alarm rather than a 2:1 upgrade, so i went for the the toad ai606 with window lifters I was told its the easiest to upgrade with extras (plus he done me a deal as i had it on my last car, Which was nicked btw so i dont know why i bought it again!!!)
The Cobra system was already fitted on the car when I brought it, I get the impression that it wasn't fitted as good as it could have been, so the setup probably suffered as well.
I'm more than likely to go for the whole CAT1 system in one go, rather than add to the standard system. I'm planning on keeping the car for some time, so I'm tempted to go for a big name like Clifford. I need to look into the prices a bit more, but with SEAT taking their time to build the car I don't think I need to rush!

Probably not such a bad idea. I'd advise you to do a bit of homework on big name like Clifford though. If you do a search of this forum you'll find arguments for and against. I was actually advised not to get one by the company I got the Autowatch off ( and not in the name of profit - even the Concept 300 was £100 more expensive). Before the flames arrive this is not meant to be a Clifford diss as I know plenty that have had and still have them just saying what I've been told...
Lets hope SEAT don't keep you waiting for too long.
i reccomend the clifford alarms but any alarm is only as good as the fitter who put it on and the time and quality that was used to do it.it is more important to get any alarm fitted properly than an expensive one fitted badly
i definately do not reccomend people like gap installs or anyone who is mobile in my experiance it is too easy for them to come fit a cat 1 alarm in a couple of hours it go wrong the same night and either get stolen or broken into .... then try ringing the guy to come round
and fix it you havent got a prayer
there are many good alarm installers all up and down the country depending on where you are in the country ask around and do your research it could save you lots of time and money in the long run
oh bye the way i have a clifford concept 600 cat 1 on my car which controls
turbo timer
headlight illumination
window lifters
total closure
memory seats for three seperate drivers
and a few bits and pieces on my stereo like illumination and such
