Just wondering if it's really worth the expense? If it is, what difference will I notice?
Cheers.

Haven't had mine done yet but apparently it improves the driveability and holds the boost between gearchanges. Wont give you any more power though.
Basically its one of the cheapest most effective mods you could buy for your 20VT.
It wont increase your engine power though, but it will make the power the car has much more usable.
First off it improves throttle response, gives a more fluid effect for the turbo causing less lag between gear changes, it should actually keep the turbo spinning so allowing the turbo to spin up faster when you accelerate from each gearchange. :)
Secondly they are a vast improvement over the original equipe Bosch version, which is prone to faliure and has already been a common warranty replacement on Audi's running the same engine. The Forge one for example is much better made being out of Aluminium rather than moulded plastic, and if it should fail which would be very rare, its fully servicible so new parts can be replaced within it, rather than chucking away the old unit entirely.

How much is it to get done, or could I do it myself (bearing in mind I'm sodding useless with engines)?
I thought it gave you 5bhp
Nah it wont give you any extra power Lee. The intake pipe on the turbo is supposed to give you between 5-10 brake extra.
Dump Valves just improve the way the car drives.
Around £80 abouts to have a Forge fitted, if your fairly compentant you could fit it yourself, if you look at your current Dump Valve and match up the pipes to the new one its fairly straight forward to see what fits where.
But if your unsure and not really mechanically minded, probably not worth ateempting it yourself.
Does the forge dump valve make a different sound to the standard one?, does it dump air like the name suggests?, does that make a noise doing that?

Depends what type you install. Atmospheric or Re Circulating.
I would strongly advise you install a re-circulating Dump Valve. This doesn't release gases as the atmospheric ones do. ie the whooshy ones. :)
Reason being that the VAG Turbo's are quite small, they need their pressure to spin effectively, so by prematurely releasing all that pressure you lose power, plus the ECU will throw up error codes on the atmospheric type.
Re-circs are not silent though, if you wind down your window you'll here a nice whistle like sound as you accelerate, but no dump sound.
Thanks for info mate!

Anytime, if i can help i will :)
