How much have you guys been quoted for your 20k service?

I just rang Motorvogue and asked how much - £255!! :blink: I asked how much the oil was and they said it was £46. I didn't even want to ask how much the labour rate was!

I know dealers run on an overexaggerating set price servicing system, so if we do choose Motorvogue, I'm insisting that its all done on a time taken basis. If they refuse, I'll take it elsewhere!

£228.44 including a brakefluid change at Robinsons SEAT, Lowestoft last month. It seems an expensive service for what they do.

it's the brake fluid change @ about £55 that people don't often factor in Tom.

lots of checking too.

If it takes longer, will you pay teh extra? assuming you take the time taken approach.

That said - there's no reason why any other vat registered garage can't do it.

Someone told me a 20K is 1.9hrs plus my parts at £40. Normally a quote doesnt include the brake fluid as thats additional servicing. So that price seems a little on the high side. Quantum PD is £32.26 retail at my stealers.

The brake fluid change takes all of 10-15 minutes and 2 litres of fluid. The checks they do also take about 10-15 minutes! I've worked with many techs in my time and this'll take no more than an hour if I take the undertray off before it goes in. Remember, techs work on a time saved bonus, so they do the job in an hour and the service dept charge for 2.

I've also rang my old work, and they're working out a quote based on what I listed out from the service book.

For the record, I never pay for dealer oil. They buy it in bulk, at around 70p/litre and book it out at 10-20x the price. £46 for oil I pay £20 for? You've gotta be kidding :)

Thats an interesting comment as when I was at a stealer recently speaking to my mate about parts, the service dept popped up to get a quote on tyres. The quote was given for the tyres to service, and the response was "is that price to me" - seems like they put their marker on top. I've been quoted £40 incl for all parts and Quantum oil for this service, so I might shop around for a labour deal now. It seems like the best people to get the quote from is the fellow techies, as I now feel then that the service dept put a % on top.

She'd rather have a properly billed service while its still in its warranty period.

If, for example, the engine blew up and it was serviced by another dealer, SEAT can and will throw out warranty claims if they believe it didn't have a "SEAT specification service".

While working at a Nissan Franchise, I saw many customers rejected genuine turbo warranty claims because they couldn't prove the oil used in their non-franchised service was the right grade. We received a call fron Nissan one day asking us all about our servicing since an X-Trail turbo blew up and it was recovered to another dealer. They didn't realise we were a Nissan dealer because our service stamp didn't have a Nissan badge on it!

Manufacturers will try anything to worm their way out of paying up. I'm not prepared to take that risk!

Well I've worked out that if I take it to the local stealers I can have my service done for £174 Incl. OK I agree that probably the checks dont take that long, but what can you do about it. I'll save my pennies on the parts. I totally agree with your comments toXXin - its not worth the aggro

If your dealer gets its tyres through Stapletons, they are told by the manufacturer to add 35%+£6+VAT. Dealers whack-ons depend entirely on who inputs it. I imagine Londoners are severely punished on this one! Oh and watch out for "environmental charges", these are basically to dispose of the old tyres. This costs the dealer £1/tyre. Make sure they charge you that.

Dealers add silly bits onto services. For example:

* £6 of sundries for the squirt of spray lube
* £1.50 screenwash which is just a 250ml bottle
* Stupid prices for bulbs
* The engine flush, fuel additives, aircon treatment, etc are bought from the manufacturer for £3.50 each. The manufacturer then tells the dealer what to price them out at.

Well it looks like it won't be going to SEAT!

My old boss just rang me - £80 with me supplying the oil and filter! It'll be done as per the book, with a stamp and receipt :)

well my turbo had gone, i was 2000miles out of the service regs with last one being at jabba they replaced turbo and a couple of pipes, only ask me if it was serviced i said "sort of" but it was due one so they did one cost 250 but proper engine flush extra tub of oil in boot etc etc

and they didn't even check the book i had to remind the bloke at reception to sign book.

just get it done at jabba of something save about £80

but may lose that on resale value??

Please don't use Motorvogue, you will regret it. See my post earlier this year:

Don't you worry, its going to a garage I trust! :D

Sorry to hear of your problems with them...you can't really expect good work from a Fiat/Alfa dealer, can you?
