thinking of getting the rsd chip for 235 quid
it upgrades my engine by 15 brake, at moment i htink im siting around 155-157brake with my steel induction hose and pipercross induction kit..
whatcha all think , would it be noticeable enough to make it worth my while? also what about economy and 0-60's any diff??

Had this chip on my 16V Cupra, its worthwhile IMO, helps take out the flat spots and perk up response where it needs it most (felt most gains lower down the rev range) , and no detrimental effect on fuel economy. As long as you don't expect a huge difference you'll be impressed.
The only downside is your insurance will increase, and you might have to change companies to one that covers chipped cars.

P.S. 16V seems to like Super Unleaded, you'll get about 4 extra mpg and it will feel more "urgent"

not so sure whether insurance cp. needs telling as i dont think they would check for a changed ecu over here as there is only one bloke who does that sort of work..

Get it done.

It doesn't sound like a lot, but you should definitely notice the difference.

its not an RSD chip its an AmD chip .

Yeah - you would probably be better going to AmD direct - you'd come out better as the chip would be based on your car, not a general one.

I think you'll find, if you take it into RSD they will take it to AmD to have the chip done.

It may be cheaper to go to AmD direct, then again it might not.

Then again again, perhaps RSD don't take it to AmD.

Give them a call and find out.

Probably not, you want my Ibiza for that. Did I mention it is for sale? ;)

arse,
are you lot trying to tell me that a standard 1.8t ibiza would be quicker or more powerful than a 16v engine chipped and with stainless steel induction hose, and pipercross induction kit?? i know the latter two dont produce much extra but the 16v is only 6 brake shy of the turbo o start with?????

also, would i be better leaving my ecotek valve off or put it back on for the chip upgrade????
think my braking is better without it and dont really seem to be any worse off for mpg or flatspots:confused:

As I had my 16V chipped by RSD I feel I can comment here. Yes they use AmD chips for 2.0 8V and 2.0 16V cars which are pre-programmed by AmD, they are fitted at RSD by RSD and they work fine.
You don't get the rolling road session or minor final "tweaks" that you would if you went to direct to AmD, although I very much doubt it makes more than 1 or 2bhp difference at best over the preset program that is pretty much spot on anyway. They spent time developing a good chip to start with so they don't have to program it from scratch everytime.
The biggest bonus I see is you get a rolling road print out to "prove" the power level.
Anyway we all have our preferred tuners to work on our cars (as you may have gathered), and I was having other work done as well at the same time.

Personally I really don't care who you go to get it fitted, one thing you might bear in mind is if you had someone competant to fit the chip locally you could plump for the preset chip from whatever source and get it posted to you in Belfast to save you the trouble and cost of coming over.

With all those mods the 16V might have more peak power than a 156bhp 1.8T, but its still well shy on torque. My old Ibiza 2.0 16V had approx. 170bhp and recorded a 0-60 of 7.6 seconds, but a stock 1.8T (Alex's) could consistently run low 7 second times. Not MILES apart, but on the road the 1.8T does feel quicker as it pulls strong from MUCH lower than the 16V which only starts motoring over 4000rpm (1.8Ts pull strong from 2000rpm!!)
What the turbo does lack is the top end revviness and noise of a sorted 16V. The mental howling of the induction kit and exhaust at high rpm is what I miss most ;)

If you think braking is better without it and it doesn't help mpg or flatspots then chuck it in the bin.
