265hp from the 2.0TFSI thanks to a slightly modified engine with a bigger turbo. Quattro of course.
looks impressive, but what about the RS3 coming out later this year

Chips to around 310 BHP apparently with Zorst etc, which is nice!
The new Cupra Championship cars use the same engine which runs 300BHP

Not too sure about the Quattro system on a car that meant to be "fun" as it makes it a bit porky and understeery (unless its the same system as the RS4) but otherwise looks like a good car!

Oettinger/APR have a kit for the 2.0T that includes the same turbo, that maps to 310bhp.

The RS4 uses the proper quattro system whereas the A3/S3 uses the Haldex system.
However, the new Haldex system on the new TT is much improved and I wouldn't be suprised if they used this.

surely they arent going to be the same though...they must have stronger engine components like pistons, rods, cams? etc

interesting read that thanks, but who says that ottinger turbo is the same as what the S3 will come with?
im not scepticle that the engine can handle it, im just scepticle that it will make it as there isnt enough info out there to make me believe that they havent already sqeezed it dry
although this morning it doesnt seem as unbelievable as it did with the ceiling spinning

If the price is right, then that's "only" £24k which seems pretty good value in my book.
I can see costing more like 27k looking at the current range.

Ottinger is Audi's offical tuner sort of speak and has access to OEM bits ECM code etc. Here is the new style k04 with intergrated turbo/manifold

No such thing as an RS3, Audi are not going to make one. Been discussed before.
The S3 though is very nice, this is what I dont get why cant SEAT do this?, that is how to do it, looks sporty, nice but not overtly flashy.

I thought the S3 would have the DSG transmission! Wonder why they haven't fitted it? (Unless it's an option)

when DSG first came out it was mentioned that there were restrictions on how much torque you could put through it maybe its something to do with that?
Very nice, and if I was spending £27k on a hatchback I'd probably go for an S3.
ut at the end of the day it'll probably be over £30k by the time you add a few tasty options :-o
Now thats FQ-320 money. Not that you can really compaire the two cars.

Really like the new S3 not trying to hard which I like, but as you say if it comes out at around 30k i can think of alot of tasty cars in that price range, would love a spin in one though, tryed the old shape S3 before I got my lcr to see if it was worth paying the extra for the badge really, I loved it.
Had to in the end face up to the fact that i was growing up and becoming a Dad so I had to look for a 5 door, shame S3 is only 3dr.
Because obviously (cough) I'm that loaded I would have two
when DSG first came out it was mentioned that there were restrictions on how much torque you could put through it maybe its something to do with that?I think you are right because the only other restriction is that DSG is only compatible with transverse-mounted engines (which the 2.0 TFSI is)

This shows how much the TFSI engine has come in a short while. I am looking around for a good S4 2.7T and this S3 has the same power, better power-to-weight ratio and makes the fuel economy figures of the S4 look silly. If I had the cash for one I'd go for it, but I too have apprehensions over tunability of the DSG/S-tronic box. They do seem to have lower max toque limits than a manual, but I am sure Audi will allow an manual option.
I'll keep hunting for a bargain S4 though, they are highly tunable and options abound. What I save by not having a loan to get a new S3 I can put on mods and fuel. The S4 is also bigger and more practical for my other purposes.
Does anybody have thoughts on the new style steering wheels with the flat base? Are Audi saying too many drivers have fat legs getting in the way of the wheel? I still like the old 3-spoke S-line steering wheels.
Found this link as well, same photos, not sure if a couple more pics on there...

It's the usual 'horses for courses' argument that could go on for ages and there's a lot you can do with £27k - that could get you a nice 911 or build a xxxbhp monster ... the list goes on...

In the final stages of deciding which car we are going to buy to replace the Cupra R. The S3 is high on the list, but paying £31000 for a car you cant even test is a risk I am reluctant to bare. I drove an S4 out of curiousity and TBH it was quick but bland.
We are off to try a non SMG version of the BMW M3 CS at Oxford this afternoon (despite my reluctance to buy into the brand), and in the back of our minds the C Class 55 AMG keeps rearing its ugly head. The new TT 3.2 DSG was just a bit bland to drive to be honest. I am amazed how at £30k I'm struggling to find anything head and shoulders above the LCR. Even the salesmen at the 'premium' dealerships who have driven it think its a very good car.
Don't think I could buy the mad Solar Orange S3, but it is a touch bland to look at in the usual greys. Also, £31k for a hot hatch that may still be a haldex (not Quattro) platform AND I can't even have DSG as an option does disturb me somewhat. Wish I didn't have to have 4 seats :(
I hate making choices at the moment, I feel paralysed by the decision making process.
So you havn't thought about a new R32?

for a minute, then looked at the dash. By the time I had it 'optioned' up it was nearly £30k and I couldn't help feeling I'd rather go the extra mile for the S3. The R32 is a nice enough car, but the non turbo/supercharged cars I have driven have felt a bit sterile.

Hopefully it will go like stink once Revo have worked some magic on it as it will be the only differentiator from lesser models. Pick it up 1st March 07, get it to Revo on the 2nd of March:whistle:

We have a caviat with the sales man that if I drive it and hate it we can switch our order for something else (I'd have an old RS4 and the missus would want the S4 cabriolet so there would be a fight at that point).
We're trying to get a one day return flight over Germany to test it in the next week or so as it is a leap of faith, problem was the dealer was saying that they are only getting 2 a month (which may be lies) so the later we leave it to order the longer we'll wait. We are order no.3 at our dealership so we're not the first fools to place an order on blind faith. :hide:

Like the Cupra but wanted 4wd.
Finalised spec is :
Upgraded Symphony 6 disc in dash h/u
Bose upgraded amp/speakers
iPod connection
Full black nappa leather upholstry with silver piping and black headlining
Brushed aluminium dash kit
Flat bottomed leather multi function steering wheel
Rain sensing wipers
Auto dimming interior and exterior mirrors (heated)
Heated front seats
Self cleaning bi-xenons
Bluetooth phone prep with Driver Info System readout
Black pearlescent paint
RS4 style 18" alloys (if I can get Audi to agree)
Electric lumbar support
Cruise control
Interior ambient light pack
Flat tyre warning sensor
Auto Glym Lifeshine
GAP Insurance Plus
Total cost is about £31,250 but I haven't had the final price as yet. Then there is Revo which I will have to negotiate with Kev (if he uses the car as a test bed they might like to do me a deal as a returning customer ;)
Clare really doesn't like the LCR - she says its too raw, and too much of a handful trying to put down 310lb/ft on country roads in the wet with the 2wd system. As you know we currently share a car so it needs to suit us both and hopefully the quattro system will provide her with the comfort she needs, and the 17" 4 pots are adequate for stopping, not that the Brembos were bad.
Strangely I'm not really that excited about it. Its so expensive for what it is I can't help feeling a bit numb / 'ripped off'

The new leon corners so much better (flatter / less roll) and puts it's power down way better than the Mk1 leon.....I don;t think the new Cupra will be as much of a handfull.

tell me about it. As we were speccing the options list I suggested to the Audi salesman that when he quoted us £140 for internal lighting pack on a nigh on £30k car that he may as well take the shirt off my back and the wallet out my pocket now. Even he looked uncomfortable knowing how badly he was robbing us for what is ultimately a SEAT Leon Cupra with 4 rings on the front.
Good on ya - He who dares... and all that.
Thats gonna have to be one hell of a testdrive....
When you know that things like cruse control is just a different stalk and something enabled on the ECU it mush really grate that they want so much for it.
I guess at the end of the day if you want that engine and 4wd then you’ll have to buy the Audi as it’ll never appear in any other Golf V variants any time soon.

Is Nappa Leather the same as the smooth/shiny leather the old S3's had on the Recaros?
If it is it looks good but is very firm and also very slippy. You'll find you need to constantly re-adjust your bum in the seat which is plain tiring especially on a long journey.
If i've got the wrong trim then ignore me but is there an alcantera option for the seat and back, with a stronger leather for the bolsters? That's be my ideal so you get good grip and long term wear and tear.

I believe it is the same Nappa leather as the old S3. I sat in an S4 cabriolet (04 plate), and they were looking pretty tired TBH. Like you say slippy as feck. I'm not so sure the alcantara/leather is an option in the UK, but I will have a look as spec can be changed for the upto the next 3 weeks. On the configuratoe on www.audi.de (http://www.audi.de) the leather seats do look like they have a mottled texture, so maybe they are being update (as is the new symphony head unit which is looking its tape unit and gaining MP3, and the wired car kit is becoming bluetooth).

As they have uprated the conrods, pistons, crank and put a high temperature head on the engine (along with the uprated turbo), or so the brochure says, I hope that it will map OK.
I'm not holding my breath but will wait to see what Revo can rustle up.
I would order it with sport recaro's without leather and get it fitted aftermarket. Quality of aftermarket leather is much better and you can also choose a slightly different coloutr or stichting.
