View Full Version : How Low on 17" 's?
Whats the best? Don't want to reduce ride comfort too much, is it advisable to change springs only?
Cheers...

If your shocks are newish, you could get away with a small drop on just springs, 25mm max. Even then you will still wear your dampers out quicker. If you have the cash i would deffinately say buy a good suspension kit.
Im on coilovers, just fitted last week. Ive been playing with ride height before it gets all alligned on tuesday, and im going for approximately 80 mm drop all round on 17's, give or take a few mill so it sits nice and square front to rear. Youll only get this low if your rear arches are rolled thougth.
40mm drop will look nice and make the wheels sit properly in the arches, not sure whether youll have to mod the arches mind.
Just been looking at Eibach Springs, write seems ok?

eibach is some of the best suspension you can buy!

If your after cheap suspension go on club lupo and look in the for sale section. The bloke in there phill gets cheap full suspension kits, i just paid 285 for coilovers all round and they handle great, and seem really goood quality. He does full suspension kits that are height adjutable for 210, and there apparently unbranded fk ones. Or if you want the top stuff he does h+r cup kits for about 320.
Dont know much about street line. There the ones from ecp, branded as bilstein arnt they. Theyll do the job but theres a reason why there 180 and the bilstein kit that most people use is 500+.

There unbranded, but there suposedly made in the same factory in holland as fk, h+r and weitec. Best thing to do is have a look at club lupo or club polo theres loadsa info on there. Bill from badger 5 off here has also bought a set for his misses lupo, ask him what he thinks of them, he'll be able to give u a more detailed reprensentation of what there like as im sure hes drove a lot more suspension kits than me to compare them to.
Just found his post on Club Lupo, whats the advantage of coilovers above the height adjustable kits?

Height adjutable are in steps only, 10mm i think . Coilovers (basic ones) have collars on a thread to higher or lower the spring, which will set the height of your car exactley how you want it. So if the wheels rub you can just higher a touch. More expensive coilovers can be adjusted on the damping, but this is only worth having if you know how to set up suspension, otherwise your handling will just be worse!
Just PM'd him to see if he's got a set of coilovers :)
