So, VR6 or G60?

Things to comment on are...

Equipment, spec, cost of running, resale value, the usual stuff.

i voted G60, not driven the VR6 but ive driven my mates jabba'd G60 and it flys. The tone of the car is simply awesome. Just think what jabba could do for a G60 if you got one Martyn......go on lad.

VR6 cos although it's juicy, at least you don't have to rebuild the supercharger (and it sounds better)

And you can buy VR6 engine parts from a ford dealer cheaper than you can a VW dealer :D

marty, they are both pricier to run than the cordy, the g60 needs a erbuild every 40k and the vr6 is a bit of an animal on services and fuel.

Parts are expensive. Body panels aren't VAG as such, think a wing is £200 ish. HT leads (prompted from another thread lurking around here) were about £90 for a set about 4 yrs ago!

Fuel - I seem to remember it being quite consistent at mid 20s.

Has some strange quirks, driving to work one day, car was cutting out, then starting again, then cutting out - called VW out, turned out to be a loose fuse box - cutting out jolted it back in contact!

Dodgy sunroofs, need to oil them - read the corrado club pages.

Drove a G60 and had it almost spin (very unintentionally). Reckon it was some wear in the rear suspension (130k on the clock and looking very tired).

Buy the VR6, you wont regret it.

Yer, VR6 is the way to go, they are all on quite high mileages, the vr6 can sap it up, the g60 cant.

Parts are expensive on both, but there have been a number of g60's that have broken due to negelect.

They suffer some minor rust problems, but nothing major.

Be prepared to pay your money for a decent VR, scour the club pages.

Get a good one tho, and its one of the best handling FWD cars ever built.

If you can stretch to it you want a VR6 Storm. It came in black and red I think. Lovely motor. A mate of mine had a G60 and a VR6 after, definitely preferred the VR6 especially as the Supercharger went bang and cost him 2.9k in engine work, supposedly this it common. He had receipts for the rebuilt S.C only 10k miles before but VW were having none of it.

Bothe drink the juice when nailing it. You need to budget for oil for the VR6 as it uses quite a bit which is supposedly normal. AS for resale value, they're classics and the price is staying flat or going up not down. A Storm would be a good investment.

Cheers

VR6 anytime. I've had two, they were the dogs proverbials, in terms of handling, and acceleration. VW has yet to make another sports car that equals it.
