View Full Version : Toledo ECU the same as...?
I started a thread a while ago about a problem with my Toledo that I still haven't go to the bottom of, it can be found here (http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?threadid=5800)
A guy near me has a smashed M reg Golf GTI 2.0 16V and may sell the ECU if he cant sell the whole car. Does anyone know if this will be the same as the one in my Toledo? Its the same engine and most of the mechanical parts are aswell. Are ECU's 'married' to the car so to speak? My car has an immobiliser and after speaking to someone in another forum think that this may cause problems. The transponder is built into the key so if you get another cut it wont start the car (unless done by Seat). I dont really want to go as far as changing ignitions and things as the ECU may not be whats at fault...
Has anyone any experience with this?
Thanks
Don't know if this will help, but I had a similar sort of problem on an Astra GTE 16v a few years ago. Turned out the ECU relay was knackered.
What's the mileage on your motor? Just wondered if one of the injectors is playing up.
if it helps as well
ALL ecu's carry their part number on them
BUT
you WILL need work done to engage immobiliser codes etc etc
y do u need one ne way ??
Pugster,
Can the ECU relay be found in the fuse box or is it more complicated than that? I'll look at the manual but its a bit dark right now! The car has done 125k. The guy at the rolling road mentioned injectors but then found it was putting unburnt fuel out the exhaust and ruled that out. Would a blocked injector not cause a misfire due to lack of fuel?
Flapper,
I was looking at trying an ECU because I thought it could be the cause of my misfire problem.. probably not but I'm running out of things to try!
Thanks for the replies..
Well, on an Astra it was in the engine bay, just bolted to the bulkhead, not sure about a Toledo but I think yours has a Bosch injection system like the Astra had so it could be a similar sort of set-up. I would be surprised if it was your ECU. I would have thought it's the sort of thing that either works or it doesn't and if there was a fault on it, the diagnostic machine would have flagged it up.
I'll have a look for the relay. Its a Bosch motronic injection system as far as I know.. I'm running out of ideas, it probably isnt the ECU! Someone on another forum has suggested that it may be the plugs. At the moment I have NGK BKUR6ET-10. He has a data manual that suggests NGK BK7EKU would be more suitable. I've not managed to find anywhere that sells these plugs though!

Yep same system as Astra.
Re-reading your original thread, have you changed the ignition leads? I only ask, because you say that the leads looked in good condition. Had a problem with the wife's Escort (excuse me for swearing) with it mis-firing, but only when it was hot. Plug leads looked OK, but decided to change them anyway and hey presto, problem fixed. They "seemed" to break down as they got hotter.
Good luck!
I have changed the leads now. After I took it to Seat for the 1551 diagnostics they suggested that this could be the problem (probably because I told them it was the only thing I hadn't changed!).
I'm getting these other plugs tomorrow so I'll post back to let you know how I got on.
