View Full Version : Alpine 7893R Headunit
The car is ordered, just need to get the new head unit ready to go in.
The 7893R looks to be the just the job with MP3 playback. I already have a shiny new Alpine 634 MP3 CD Changer to put into the boot, so 7 CDs equals gawd knows how many hours of music.
Anyone already got the 7893 in a new Ibiza? Does it need a wiring loom adapter / interface? Nice that it supports dual illumination, so the orange will match the dash lighting.
TIA,
Chris.
yes the alpine set will require an adaptor to fit.
I am interested in what you think when you install it. I find the current one a bit lacking. No money at the moment to do anything, but might in a few months.
You planning to change anything else (ICE-wise)?
Thanks Genesis.
Just head unit and CD changer to start with Dave. Run that for a few months and see how the speakers cope with a better quality head unit.
I do have some soundproofing material I brought for the Scoob but never got round to sticking in. Might use some of that in the boot. Will try a few long m-way trips first.

Might be better off using it on the doors, since most road nois comes from them.
I've got the 7893R in my mini. Really is an awsome headunit for the price although the fiancee tells me this morning that it has eaten a CD and wont eject it!!
I am well pleased with it. Also the low pass filter thingy for the sub and dual preouts make for interesting noise thru the Infinity Refrence series speakers and Rockford fosgate punch sub!
Thanks Paulo - anyone taken the door skins off then? :D
I ordered a 7983r from Edworthys.co.uk on Monday. £270 delivered, compared to £350 list in Halfords (who don't price match against the 'Net).
Chris.
is £229 from MCS direct, sorry to upset you!
ALP-CDA-7893R
Dual Illum., 4 x 60w, 3 pre outs, MP3 playback
Price: £229.00
www.mcs-direct.co.uk goto online shop. Got mine from them. If its in stock they damn good.
I found MCS offering it at that price, but a couple of friends warned me off them.
The ICE websites I found were all around £270 (Edworthys, CarAudioDirect etc), so I was a little bit suss how they could be so much cheaper than them (which are cutting list by £80 to start with).
No worries though :)
The Alpine is definitely an awesome unit. I will start my ICE install this December.
I've already ordered the Clarion dxz928r for myself. I figured it had everything I wanted (except for MP3) + I was looking for something a bit different.
By the way Chris off the FAQ section of the Dynamat site:
Q: What part of the vehicle should I do first?
A: We recommend applying Dynamat to any surface you can easily reach. In general, we recommend treating your vehicle in the following order: Doors, Trunk, Rear Deck, Floors, Roof, Hood, then Fenders.
I've taken the door cards off my Ibiza, if you would like a guide, send me an email and I'll send you the one I made!
I'm going for the Alpine 7998R unit for my Ibiza once it comes down to a reasonable price, I want a black unit and also a decent display so that it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.
Let me know how you get on with the ICE, and I'll let you know how I've got on with mine :)
