Hello people

Came accross an add the other day for a device called vericom.
The add said that it is an automotive performance meter, that uses an accelerometer and can measure accceleration/deceleration, lateral g's, times for 0-60mph, 60-0mph etc.
After a bit or research on the net i found other makes as well (race-technologies' AC22, G-tech).

The question is: are these gadgets any good?
Are they accurate? Has anyone used them and compared them with (maybe) more sophisticated equipment?

I looked at a few of these and in the end I went for the AP-22 (Its an AC-22 with a port to connect it to your PC and download the info.).

I have to say that I'm pretty impressed with it, and compared to pro equiptment (Eg. GTI International) it appears to be accurate to about 0.05 seconds in a 0-60 sprint. The AC/AP-22 has LOADS of feature.... more than any other one I saw out there.

I expect my clutch will die soon as I now do a 0-60 run everyday on the way home on a nice flat straight I go down! :)

I've recently bought some new wheels (7x17" wheels on my Ibiza) and I used the AP-22 to compare acceleration performance... I expect my acceleration to be slower but in reality I've actually been getting my fastest ever times with the new wheels!

I also bought some Brembo 4-pot brakes recently and I was planning on using the AP-22 to compare stopping distances/times/g-forces but I never got around to it.

Thanx for your views on the AP22 Ben...

I had a look myself at the competition; the g-tech is very flashy but can't record that many useful stuff, while the vericom is way out of the price range.
I think I'll go for the AP22 as you did; most important feature for me is that it can speak metric :D

Say, what wheels did you buy?
Do they fit the brembos with or without spacers?

how does the AP22 unit connect to your motor to know all your 0-60 and all other data??

The AP-22 uses very sensitive accelerometers so it doesn't need to be connected to your car in any way, just blue-tacked to the dash.

Fix 5 Evos in 17x7.5"... they fit over the Brembos no problems with no spacers. If you want to run wider tyres 215x40x17 should fit no problem with a 5mm spacer... 225x35x17 may also fit if you get the arches rolled.

Bill has one i sent to him for review ;)

Don't know what his thoughts are on it yet.

Im sure Bill can bring it with him to Alconbury if any of you are going, so you can see it in action, maybe try it out.

Like mike asked, is the AP22 back-lit?
About the blue-tack thing, can you attach and detach the unit over and over again?
The tack itself, does it leave any stains on the dashboard or can it come off completely?

Thanks Phill, already been there though.

I went through the text and didn't notice anywhere saying whether the screen is back-lit or not...
Judging from the shots, it don't look like there's any lighting on the LCD, just wanted a confirmation from someone who's used it.

It is not backlit, the AP22 i have and passed onto Bill was not anyway.

No its not backlit unfortunately. :(
The blue tack is fine, you can stick it on and take it off as often as you want without any problems, and it hasn't stained. Eventually the blue tack will probably loose its stick and you'll have to buy some more, but thats not a big problem and it hasn't happened yet (Had it for 6 months and put it on and take it off nearly every day!).

The kit comes with blue-tack and velcro... velcro would be best but you have to stick it to the dash.

Cheers
