Does anybody have the same problem as me with their Leon ?
When you open the rear doors when it has been raining, a stream of water seems to run off the roof, and onto the rear seat !

A similar think seems to happen with the driver’s door.

Any Thoughts anybody ???

Cheers

John.

I had the same effect with my beezer, but it had nothing to do with "bad design". There are holes at the bottom of the doors (both back and side) so if water gets inside the door, it can flow out.

The problem was, that when i wased my car, it did not stand horizontally (in level) and some water left in the back door (always). When i opened it, it all flew into my boot ;). It took several clean ups until i realized what the problem is ;).

Sim, thanks for the reply, i will check for blockages.

Not too sure if it's the same problem though, the water seems to run off the roof onto the seat,

Cheers

Hi John, i have a leon, which does the same thing your talking about.

it must be either design fault or poor manfacturing, but who knows?

Guys, do a search on the same subject as you have posted. Lots of peeps have this trouble. The door seal is to good on the Leons, and does not let the water drain.

A simple modification is all that is needed. A small cut in the door seal where it joins to the chasis to let the water drain is all that is needed.

I think everyone is missing the point of John's problem, it is not the getting wet boots problem, and leaking into footwell.

he is getting water coming of roof, when opening door, which gives you wet seats, which i get to.

I get it too - where exactly do we snip the door seal?

Im sure Phill (PipSqueak) mentioned the other day that this is a known issue and a warranty claim.

Apparently they fitted brand new redesigned seals to his car, and that sorted the issue.

Maybe worth mentioning it.

Flapper do you know if there has been any official word on this.

Mine let water in a little, but not on the scale some have described, just as a question to people with this problem.

Are your cars parked level or on slopes? Obviously this is an issue that needs sorting, but mine is always parked level at home and work, and ive not experienced the problems as bad.

BUt even so, its something that needs sorting and im sure SEAT have come up with some redesigned Seals.

Thanks Mark - I'll contact the supplying dealer in the morning. Like the car very much - love the colour (Bronze or Burnished Copper as my Wife likes to call it - Metallic Lucozade as I've named it...).

Just mailed a reply to your message yesterday. Thanks.

Take care

Mike

No problem MIke. :D

Its a fine colour, i used to have an Ibiza 16v before my Leon that swas in Natural Copper which is a close colour to the Bronze, it was really striking.

When i got my Leon i was hoping i coul dget the Copper or something close to it for my Leon, but at the time the Bronze wasn't offered so i went for Imperial Blue instead.

On this thread about leaky Leons, i also got the wrong end of the stick about the seals i have to say. The fix i speak of is regarding the footwell leaks.

I also suffer from the roof problem too, i always have a rag in the back to wipe my rear leather seats when they get drowned. :(

This though could also be a seal problem, it seems they are so good they hold water and as you open the door it drains out all over the seat, or it could just be the shape of the roof, and it pours in from there.

To be honest ive not looked at this closely enough, but i'll take a good look in the morning to see if it comes off the roof or from the seal. :D

Obviously I'll keep an eye on it - so much rain the past few days here, fog too... :( Needed some sun in the pic to really show the colour off, but that's the way it goes.

Yeah weathers horrendous at the moment, though i find my Imperial Blue looks better when its wet :D

A member of the drivers club has a Bronze Leon he was at Trax, its a nice colour, and one i personally as i said would of been tempted by if it was available.

Ive always wanted a Metallic Blue car though and never managed it until now :)

Ive had Black (nice but tended to show the dirt a lot),

Matt Blue, Bit bland

Red (never again hate the way it bleaches in the sun)

Copper (Loved it, sort of rustic when dirty, and almost Salmon pink when it was wet and clean)

The bronze is definately a nice colour, on par with Imperial Blue !

The leaks not too bad if you have leather seats as you can wipe the water away. I managed to get hold of some Diamond Brite, and that has fabric protector in the kit. I am going to spray that on the fabric that keeps getting wet, hopefully i won't get a musty smell :fart: from the seats in the future !

Apparently they fitted brand new redesigned seals to his car, and that sorted the issue.

I contacted my local dealer about the new seals, they didn't know anything about them, so they contacted seat uk, they said there are NO new seals exist, Very odd?

Like the car very much - love the colour (Bronze or Burnished Copper as my Wife likes to call it - Metallic Lucozade as I've named it...).

Mike - Snap, same colour as my cupra, very cool colour on a sunny day.

REF SEALS : only word we have had is with reference to modifying the originals :(

and the watter from the roof is sort of a deign fault on all new cars as none of them have a gutter rail anymore  i first noticed it when i opened a window on a new laguna in 94 and it filled the door swithes with water and popped the electrics

thankfully it wasn't mine , good design huh?

Dave

Mine's the only one I've seen. We must get the cars together for a pic if we meet up! I thought it would be a "love it or hate it" colour, but everyone that's seen the car so far loves it - even my Mum and Mum-in-Law!

yeah,
saw a bronze Leon 20vt in David Lloyd car park Warrington a few weeks back - looked great.
Have a few problems with leaks & water coming off the roof now that the rains have arrived - service is due so hope to get them sorted before any rotting sets in.
Daz would you be willing to service an imported, leaky, squeaky clutched Leon at Amethyst ??
- can feel a weekend down at my sister's coming on !!
thanks,
Kev
