View Full Version : Installing CD Changer (non SEAT unit)
I have a Kenwood 10 disc CD Changer + head unit that I took out of my old Rover when I PX'd it for the Leon.
I want to swap the Aura radio that in fitted in the Leon for the Kenwood (don't see a problem here - Halfords list the cable and fasia adapters) but WHERE do I mount the CD Changer?
Looking at the size of the unit it is unlikely that it is going to fit in the glovebox so do I see if it will fit under one of the front seats or do I put it in the boot. Any thoughts on running the cable from the radio to the changer?
In addition how does the existing Aura radio come out, can't see any visable method of getting it out and don't want to damage the dash or the radio.
Thanks for any advice,
Mark

Mark,
I also have a Kenwood head unit and have installed this instead of the Aura.
Look closely at the bottom of the Aura head unit and you should see two small holes/openings. You need to insert the removal pins (available from Seat dealer) into these holes in order to reease the Aura from the dash. OR you can use your Kenwood pins (as I did) to remove the Aura as the Kenwood and Aura removal pins are similar.
Only other thing I had to do was to swap the red and yellow cables on the Kenwood loom to match the Leon's ISO outputs (check yours first though). This was because the head unit was not remembering my settings when switched off.
As for the changer, I've seen one Kenwood changer in a Leon's glovebox but it did need some customisation to get in there. Other than that, I guess the changer could go in the boot.
Hope this helps.
Dean.
Cheers Dean,
Taken a closer look at the Aura and I can see the holes now.
The Kenwood changer will not fit the glove box, about 3/4 inch too wide, so I guess the boot will be the best option with the cable running underneath the trim on the passenger side.
Either that or fork out for the Seat CD-Changer which is going to be a lot easier to install!!!

T20076 is the part no for the tool :)
mind you anything FLAT that fits in will do
push in and then out towards the outsides of the unit as it has sprung loaded tags holding it in
to make it easier get a mate to stick his finger in the tape slot and gently pull as you press on the springs :p GENTLY mind
I have managed to fit an alpine 12 disk cd changer in the glovebox and it is huge!!!,
Took a fair bit of cutting to get it to fit though but was definitly worth it in the end just for the ease of access to change cassettes!!
Ive fitted a 6 Disc Alpine Unit into my Leon now to complement my Alpine Headunit. I'll put some photos up soon. Even though it was bigger, well mainly wider, than tall we got it in without much resistance and we didnt have to cut anything.
In hindsight after measuring it up, we know we could of easily got the 12 disc in there, cause there was ample top and bottom, but its a snug fit anyway and the 6 Disc does the job anyway.
We found it easier to remove the glovebox totally from the car, that way we could look at it clearly.
Anyway as i say i'll get some photos up of it soon.

Do you happen to know what dimension your changer is. I was thinking of putting Sony's new 6xCD changer in the glove box and it looks as though it will be extremely tight? - didn't really want a CD changer in the boot etc.
Not sure of the top of my head, though I can dig out the manual and get the dimensions.
