IBIZA 1.9 TDi FR PD130

i this good or bad i have no idea, i'm paying £880 with my current insurer on direct debit, am i right in thinking that if i cancel the policy early they will keep the deposit but i won't have to pay any more DD's. anyone out there in the know who could help, i was gonna get a remap but i cant seem to get a sensible quote for this aswell:cry: . what insurers are you guys with. tell me about it! i've been getting quotes for revo etc, 1225 with adrian flux for new ibiza fr with 3 points and nil no claims. i'v had a quote from norwich union they quoted over 2000 and that with NO mods!!! :wtf: i fink it all depends on your risk factor because i've got nil no claims then it's shot up...been quoted 700 quid thats with no mods but that was thru carsupermarket.com
hope that gives ya an idea
little trick i found getting insurence (before points and becoming named driver) put someone older ie.. mum or dad down as a named driver and you premium should drop by around 15% and you still get you no claims building up

Cheapest ive found so far with Revo and induction kit declared is £860 with Greenlight. Norwich Union wont insure me on the Cupra, neither will a lot of other companies. Waiting for my renewal quote to come thorugh at the moment expecting it to be a fair bit cheaper than £860.

Just thinking this evening about what car to get when i get to my 21st!
Direct line by any chance, thats the only company i know that offer named driver NCB, too pricey for me, my mate went with elephant on his clio sport. he had i hi flow exhaust, cold air feed induction kit. he put his mum on as a named driver got fully comp for £800. thats was until he slid on some ice in the works car park and had to claim:cry:

I would get a quote with greenlight on the new car that you want, Im planning on changing mine next year and Greenlight wont insure me on that but my current insurers will so that has helped make the decision easier

I found bell to be uber cheap! Im 20 2 years no claims on my mk3 Cupra £684 Fully Comp! MAD
Only thing I found that was strange about elephant was that they won't insure me if I change the DV on my car, no issues with the remap, or if I changed the brakes, wheels or tinted the windows, but the DV seemed to cause them a major issue

You say you are a named driver, are you delared as the main user? Also if your name is on the log book as the owner of your car this will rule out that option due to insurance rules about insurable interest. Insurance companies are wise to the "it's insured in my mum's name" scam and have been for a very long time. The direct line sales pitch of additional drivers earning no claims bonus is probably worthless because it all boils down to your new insurer accepting that and has nothing to do with direct line. Another cr@p sales pitch from insurers I'm afraid (very much like the max bonus for life that More Than insurance rants on about). I think you'll also find that if you cancel you policy you'll be charged more than just your deposit. Ask before you do it.
£322 fully comp :funk:
1.9 TDi FR 07 model
no mods as yet, but looking at Strut brace, 160 CAI and poss re-map
other insignificant things like spacers and tints which don't affect the policy.
age 25 with 4yrs NCB, but parked on licenced premises (pub car park)

When you change insurence company they ask for proof of no claims not whether you were a named driver, The sheet of paper direct line send out to you is the same as the main driver only with a differant amount of NCB, so as far as this offer go it does work,:D
As for me being the named driver, i work away pretty much 4-5 days a week 90% of the time so there is no reason why i should put myself down as the main driver just for weekends and the occasional weekday. i paid for the car yes but the owners invoice, registration and tax are in my mums name.

I own my Leon but only drive it at weekends, my other half drives it during the week and as a result is the main driver and the policy holder for the insurance. Elephant didn't seem to have a problem with me declaring the insurance that way.
im with brentacre
20 yrs old
3 yrs no claims
all mods declared, remap, coilovers, wheels, fmic, brakes etc.
£850
was £695 without remap and fmic, but other mods included.

It won't take long for your new insurer to change the way it words the NCB question to stop Direct Line being able to use this sales pitch. As with the main user and registered owner point, I've seen so many people get in deep water trying to save themselves a few quid on insurance by using the "it's my mums car honest" trick. Don't want you to get caught out.

Its obvious from your statement you have not and dont work within insurance....
If you actually check Direct Lines 'No Claims Discount' to named drivers it basically can only be used with Direct Line not with any other insurance company.
Why? For a couple of reasons..
1: Why Oh Why would Direct Line give proof of no claims discount to a named driver, just for them to say "thank you" and ditch to another company giving a better price, would DL not have some sort of clause that you can only use the NCD with theirselfs, hmm, yes.
2: Other insurance companies knew about Direct Lines noclaims discount scheme before it even reached the public, and guess what, if you goto any major insurer and say "ive got full NCD from Direct Line as they give proof for named drivers", well, you aint gunna get cover from that company. And the way it is worded on the insurance docs will state you were the named driver.
Now, im not saying that some insurance companies wont accept second driver no claims discount, but you will notice that the companies accepting this are actually desperate for business. Probably the same companies who don't replace modified parts like for like, don't give a courtesy car, don't use official parts for repair, don't give guarantees with repair etc etc. Anything to get costs down and profits up. These are also the companies willing to slash an insurance price just to get business just because a rival has a better price - unethical business. Which leads me to;
ps: This is a personal rant so take no notice if you wish.
Anyone, and I mean anyone who accepts an insurance price from a company who have reduced their price just because a rival has beaten it must be insane. Why the hell should you shop around for a company, just for them to match or beat a price???? If they can afford to reduce their price, WHY did they not give you that price in the first place? What this tells you is that they do not care about you as a customer, all they care about is profit, as they were willing to fleece you of the higher price in the first place. Also, if they are willing to cut corners to get sales in, what the hell are they gunna do when it comes to Claims? What corners are they gunna cut to keep costs down when it is your car involved in an accident????? What im saying is think about what you are doing, Cheapest is not always best, and insurance is all about claims service, not price!!!!! So boasting that you get £500 with zero no claims with a shit company, is worse than someone paying £700 with a good company, as paying the extra money ensures you will be looked after in event of a claim.
Phew, rant over:D :D :D :D
Good Rant. To be honest i don't work in insurence and i'm not with direct line, so i don't care:p
But what you sad there does make alot of sense and you obviously you know more about insurence than i do;) and the info you gave there will help alot of pepole who are thinking of goin with direct line
PS. nice looking car BTW

Lol, you go! To be honest I'm really pleased with my quote as I know it's a reputable company...800 all mods inc, nil no claims, 1 3rd party claim, penalty points, and I'm 22...quote thru BELL
I work for RBS which owns Direct Line, and I'm supposed to get 10% discount which is what you get anyway if you go online. I would never go with Direct Line as I think they are still very expensive. However, allot of people at work highly recommend them, the people who have had to claim said they couldn't fault D.L, saying they were highly professional and dealt with promptly.
It's all down to personal preference tho
I must admit, this whole NCD for named drivers must be a pile of poo, cus not all other companies will recognise it, surely???
Spot on Numenor. the renewal discount thing is easy to explain. Insurance companies make no money out of the first year of your policy when you factor in the amount of money the spend on advertising to get your business. At renewal, as they already have your business they don't have those costs so they will try (some times) to keep you.
My tip is to ring your insurer a few days before your renewal date. Tell them you've had a better quotation with a better excess (quote a figure about 12% cheaper than they quoted you) and you want to cancel from renewal.
Give it a try an I think you'll find it will work more often than not.
Sometimes I hate living where i do !!
I still can't get insured in my own name :(
I live in a lovely area in Liverpool, very quiet & no n0bheads around..............but, the 1st 4 digits of my postcode are identical to an area about 5 mins away which is full of little scrotes, so my insurance is astrnomical.
I'm a named driver, 24, 5 years driving, no points/claims/accidents & it still costs me £800 p/a for my insurance. In my own name, its over £2k !!!

I hate where I live about 75% of the time, can't stretch the cars legs at all! Can't wait to come over and give the motorway some abuse, lol
I started out March 2005 on my own being only 20 at the time in a Polo GTi, with similar consequences, nil no claims under my dads policy, been driving 3 years etc etc...cost over 1.5k to get insured with 600 excess...
driving at the moment 400 excess but the insurance is paid for
going with Bell in December when comes to renewal, 800 quid with engine mod, uprated brakes with a 250 excess (+ 3 penalty points, Jul 05 oops! 3rd part claim, reversed into neighbours car, late for work  which equates still to 0 no claims)
think you will see yours drop mate next year tho, when you turn 25 ??? surely :wtf:
i did a joke about quote a while ago. also with greenlight.
Went over the top with everything i would want done to it.
List was:
KO3s , FMIC, Full exhaust(plus Cat), coilovers,brembos,17" alloys, ARB's, Dog Bone,4bar FPR,dump valve,window tints..
And they said it would be £890!! Am 21, 1yr NCB, live in very safe area and have pass plus.
you notice the % no claims discount has mysteriosly been dropped and a better (for them) YEARS no claims adapted instead
i would just love to see every driver in britain cancel their insurance for a week on the same day same week and walk to work
the ins con's would absolutely crap themselves and would remind them of people power
