Well my good man, I am doing the mod because

1) I am bored
2) All the other mods now will cost me lots of money and this wont.
3) I want to see for myself if it actually makes a difference so I am going to smooth both sides of the airbox and get some 108mm ducting. Route it to a nice place and hope for the best.
4) I am getting a carbonio cold air intake so i can compare and see which is better

yea all is well :)

1) yeh thought so...its a diesel
2) yeh i agree ...... its a diesel
3) it will make negible difference....to a diesel
4) i wouldnt waste the money mate, ive had one and got rid back to airbox/panel

heeeheee

Just worry about your exhaust passing the MOT or a coilpack going at the wrong time and I will worry about whether I get any benefit from this :)

Got some heat resistance ducting from Burton Power round the corner from me at a very reasonable £13 for 1.3m

Update
-----
Airbox is now all smoothed out. Just for the record, what a ******* job...Taken me a good 5 hours of time to get it to a level I am happy with. Be prepared to use a variety of tools to get the job done if you haven't got a dremel!

I didn't bother with the lower intake section as that's pretty smooth anyway. Lower intake half now has been cut to accommodate the 4" ducting. Will shove the ducting in and cut/glue it in so there are gaps in the cut.

Had a nice chat with daveyonthemove on advise on how to route the tubing so it should be in this weekend.

Web hosting and mods to car

Been a few weeks since I updated the progress thread with pictures. Having some disputes at the moment with my new web hosting company, they are being difficult so I am forced to write letters to their line managers and directors...Signed up to photobucket for the moment and its pretty good :D

I wanted to get the engine bay a little more sexy so the car is more ready for some shows. Took my smoothed airbox, battery cover and centre console to a body shop near where I live. Here are the results and they both came out exactly how I wanted them, piano black. Going to wax them up and get them in tomorrow. The centre console didnt come out as good, so the body shop said they would keep it and try to perfect it.

Here is my new cold air intake. The ducting is 4" or 102mm wide. Had to remove certain plastic bits in the engine bay to get a route down to the front bumper. Problem is with the cupra umper is there isnt as much room so it goes straight down too just in front of the wheels arch. Performance improvements really REALLY took me by surprise. Pulls much stronger and most important off all its made the car so smooth now. There is hardly any delay in the turbo spooling up and down now...power is just there when you need it.

Ducting just goes straight down.

Finally got my forge 10mm hubcentric spacers on the rear. I cannot say how much it has improved the handling! The car is so much more stable now when going round corners, the wider track really has helped turn the rear follow you round a corner :) Special thanks to KarlosR for making me do this!

Nice fat rear end now, wheels fill the arches nicely.

Loking good maz, airbox and battery cover look so shiney it's a shame they're going to be locked away under bonnet most of the time. Now where have I seen that AmD sticker on battery before:think:
