ABS problem now a Throttle/ECU fault?

to add (sorry for long post) the car is running perfect. Its boosting to 0.6 bar and I'm not noticing anything weird...

Eprom error is normally a bad chip problem. Is your ecu wet at all or ever been wet? If its wet it'll can bring up random codes so could easily be saying the throttle body has a problem when it doesnt. You should really get your throttle body realigned though.

Pj am I right in saying that the ECu is under the plastic panel by window on the right side of the car when standing infront of engine? Where the whiper arm is?

If so, its practically dry there, some leaves in there but they are brittle from draught (think thats how you spell that)

Rossstech also says contact tuner, but the car isn;t remapped so ECU has never been touched...

As PJ said re-align the TB to rule that out, failing that it could mean a new TB but i would expect your idle to be crap of the TB was goosed.

This was one of the main codes i kept getting when i had my electrical problem a few weeks back.

Give me a shout if your after a TB as i bought a perfectly good working one when i was trouble shooting only to find out it wasnt the TB at all.

But as you say, my idling is perfect. the throttle doesn't seem to be off at all. Plus its been 1.5 months that I took it off / put it back on. So if it was alignment wouldn't that have come up immediately?

This morning to work there were no codes and no lights.
I'm very confused, even more so because some runs there isn't any problem, and on some the lights and codes come on? :confused:

I still think that this has something to do with the ABS cable. As I said, TCS runs hand in hand with ABS, so if one has a problem the other one will also dis-engage. Think my best bet is to replace the entire ABS cable from the sensor right into engine bay.

Question though: does a new ABS cable come seperate from the plug, as I doubt it will fit through the wing otherwise...does that mean I have to connect it up myself?

Furthermore would dealers be the place to go? Or is an ABS cable not car specific?

The ECU on rhd cars is on the left hand side where you said when looking at the car. Might be on the other side for you as its lhd. You'll know what it is when you see it as it has the part number on it ad two plugs going into the front. ECU might be wet on the inside but now be dry on the outside. Realign the throttle body to rule it out and replace the abs sensor cable then see what happens.

Yeah then its on the other side for me. indeed 2 plugs going in the front of it.
I think I'll remove it in the weekend and rule out if its wet or not. Maybe I'll try and fabricate something over it to keep it dry. I think I read on here that putting a bag over it wasn't good for the ECU or is this not true?

I'll also replace ABS cable and realign throttle.

Anyone know if the abs cable is car specific or a general part that I could get at any car part place?

sorry to boycot i have a similar problem got told the abd sensor had snapped when removing previously took the car back home and replaced the sensor. vag comed it how ever it doesn;t setect the abs unit. The ecu got wet not so long ago and was dried out and re sealed etc could this have any thing to do with it ?

i got this fault it said the ecu was faulty and it was just the wiring (the plug under the tb) was **** signal, got the tb and ecu fault when mine played up

hmm...my car is still somewhat of a mystery.ts not given any codes for the last 2 days.
I'm thinking that the ABS cable was giving all the errors, and that one of the copper wires was still moist when I re-insulted them again. Thats why it was giving more codes.

As for the ECU fault and throttle, I'm not sure. Wiring on throttle looks fine, and I'll have a look at ECU over the weekend.

Clinch what did you use to seal the ECU?


ANd what have others used?

I dont know how it was resealed as it was in an old receipt from when i bought the car i am going to presume good old silicone

but pj, should I place silicone only over it like a roof, or place the entire ECU in a completely sealed housing, with only the plugs coming out?

Seat seal it with a hot melt type of sealent, all i done when i took mine apart was clean off any excess sealent and just reseal with clear low mod silicone.
