People are getting too hung up about a figure, RR's should be used to fine tweek maps, look at where things can be improved, checking everything is running fine, etc.

Looking at the graphs, the new pipes have actually given a shorter powerband, so less driveability.




Remember people, bhp figures is pub talk, its all about how driveable the car is. Whats the point of being able to hit 400bhp if it means you can only drive the car between 3000 and 4000rpm? 1/4mile, 0-60 sprints, traffic light grand prix, track days is where it counts. For example at GTi Inters T. Spark was ran a 13.5 1/4mile in his 230bhp tdi, yet a 500bhp mk3 ibiza struggled to do less than 14's, cos the mk3 is likely to be undriveable!

sorry to op for spamming thread but i was wondering how that can be thats all, some replies have been helpful other have just been rude (slick and the other person) i dnt seen how 20hp can be lost in heat soak i have done a look on other tdi running same engine and none of them do. as above rr is for joking real times are showing good mappings

Hot temps inside the dyno booth in comparison to the other runs, inadaquate air flow to the intercooler, less time between runs than others, intercooler isn't as big or efficient as others...etc etc There are numerous reasons why one car could suffer more than others with heat soak and so the only way to compare is just to use the maximum figure produced as the baseline. On another point regarding dyno figures, I also believe we should all be quoting wheel figures and not fly figures as there can be numerous differences/errors (and operator fiddling) which can affect the calculation of the transmission losses and the subsequent flywheel figure. If we all just used the wheel power figures produced it would be a lot more accurate and in the end it's only what gets put down on the tarmac that matters....;)

Thats not correct, you sure your looking at the right lines? :)

If you compare my highest bhp and torque curve with my lowest "after hoses" you will see there is more power all the way until 4200ish. Where the lowest after hoses run fails in comparison to my best one is where is suffers from heat soak at the top end.

If you compare to two best figures from the before and after, the after results are stronger through the whole range.

Having now got home and been able to see the graph all I can say is some people need to get some lessons in how to read a graph....:confused:

It's clear as mud that the "after hoses" plots are better compared to the pre hoses plots. And all this banging on about the power loss on the second runs, even here you can see the second run with the new hoses is better than the second run without the new hoses.

Also where do you get the "shorter power band" from?? The 'after hoses' plots both show wider power bands than before not narrower! :rolleyes:

Yeah I can see the figures now but I still think the actual plots themselves should be of wheel power and we should generally try to lean away from the calculated flywheel figures. Also I don't see the wheel torque figure quoted, or have I missed it?

Good figures you've got there though, I'm expecting around the same sort of levels myself once I get the SFS pipework and the Allard EGR delete fitted. Mines hitting around 240bhp/350lbft at the moment but hoping to knock on 260bhp once the water/meth injection has been added.

Double the Feeds = better air flow = more performance? Lets find out

This Saturday I am very pleased to say that I will be doing with the help of Skorchio a true Twin Cold Air feed as seen on Skorchio's and Probee's cars. The difference being that mine will go to the airbox instead of an Dynatwist / Open Cone (this may come later depending on results). We will be doing some before and after logs too to verify if its made a difference.

True forced induction Twin Cold Air Feed

Today was a very fruitful and eventful day. I took a trip up to Milton Keynes to see Skorchio to trade talents. Skorchio worked on my LCR bumper fixing the grills and putting in the twin cold air feed whilst I was detailing his new motor. Unclefester invited us to his place to work on both cars which was very kind of him. Just want to say his s2000 is lovely!

Nick done a brilliant job , no wonder his LCR was amazing to be honest. We didnt take a picture of the final product but you will get the idea of what we achieved.

The end result was two feeds taking air directly from the fog holes. Initial impresses were smoother pickup once on the move and the noise is awesome! We did take a few logs however we ran into problems so we couldn't do a true before and after.


Suspension Strut Failer - Coilovers here I come!

The main reason for this is because my suspension strut has failed on the right hand side, giving off a loud woosh sound everytime you go on a bump in the road or accelerate. This has totally thrown my plans out to get the droplinks and strut mounts! I now got to make a decision whether I got for KW V1's or V3's....Its looking more like V3's at the moment.

Yeah that's not a nice sound Maz but by god does that thing feel quick! Nice to see you both today, thankfully the light drizzle cleared up and it turned into a cracker of a day :)
Yea when it first happen to say I nearly sh!t myself as to what the problem may be is an understatement.

Next time I am at yours (mid Sept? ;)) take her out for a proper spin! Kw and you owe me a ride in yours still...roof down please!

What's you thinking about how you want these to feel when you have these adjusted and fitted?
Make sure these are adjusted PRIOR to fitting, don't make the mistake Dolby and the garage fitting these to assume they were set up from the factory.

Yea I basically went for them for for the following reasons:

- AmD done me a good price and offer.
- AmD will configure them to how I want them setup. Shaun@AmD with his long history of racing cars and working in motorsport, he said he would help me set it up and tweak it.
- Positive reviews from yourself and Dolby. Your project is focused on handling and harnessing the existing power of the Leon so your positive feedback made the choice easier.
- It made sense to buy them because of the warranty aspect. You get two years warranty and every single piece of the coilover is repairable. If one fails outside of the warranty because the kit is one of the best out there its worth fixing it. Also the inox steel is a nice feature.
- My car needs to be lowered and roll less. Due to the power it has on tap now the shocks and springs just couldnt cope with it. I do have a feeling however this is because the right shock was on its way so unbalanced the car in the last month or two. H&R Cup Kit is still an amazing shock and spring kit and recommend them to anyone without hesitation.
- I spent to much money on the car over the last 3 years its a shame to go and get a kit that doesnt do the hardwork i put in justice.

I will for sure PM you about the setup. Shame that you live so far away would have been good for you to drive the heavier tdi to get your opinion.

yup, you sound like your getting them for the right reason.
Mine are 3rd hand and TBH look like new.
I'd be very keen to get a drive of your car as I've never been in a fast Diesel.
I plan to get some track days together with other SCN Leon guys at some point so hopefully we could all get together.
Would be very nice to have a racing driver drive your car and tell you how to change things.
When I was on the track the instructor said the car felt very good which was nice to hear.
