I certainly made no such threat, and I don't speak for m0rk, he is his own man.

However in turn we don't have to publicise somebody else's venture if we don't want to. Simply because it exists forces no obligation upon us that we must promote it on here.

Now if there is fair consultation to the fact, and it were to be discussed ahead of release rather than unsolicited promotion, then we do tend to look on those ideas more positively.

I have seen another commercial concern based in another country that shows some promise as a solution but as it is not a UK based firm it's not something we would really entertain.

Quick question on that point if I may. Now a while ago a member on here started a site much like eBay but for seat parts and not long soon after was contacted by a member of admin and told that if the site wasn't taken down he would be banned for life from SCN. Would this have been the case???

I am in no way pointing any fingers here, this is just purely carried on from what I was told.

the members you are talking about were banned until the sit was taken down but i think it was the fact that they publicised on here behind the admins back but im not %100 on that

Not factually correct

They were prevented from their promotion, and offered to remove their site in way of regaining their membership.

Worth noting is that permission was sought, rejected with the reason and penalty and was still proceeded with.

Ref "full potential" - if our goal is to have the number 1 source of seat information, having a for sale section won't help that? Moot agrument.

my 2 pence worth.

A site like this is used for informational purposes and a for sale section is an added benefit.

There are plenty of places online that are available to sell your car parts that have very powerful systems in place to monitor transactions and staff to deal with problems should they arrise.

If you feel that you are not getting the most from your free membership and you think you can get more from another forum that is a decision you will have to make.

If the for sale section isn't an issue then why care if someone makes a seperate site dedicated for it??? I could be wrong tho and you don't have an issue which is a good thing.

yes every one knows that there are other places to find parts, no one is disputing that fact.

The admin have already stated its something that they may have a solution and hopefully it will be reinstated.

Zboyd has hit the nail on the head tho, its all about trust when buying over the net and I would rather buy off a regular forum member with lots of posts that I can look at than someone on another site with no feedback. Plus its a lot easier for everyone if its localised in one place.

from what i've read of the admins numerous replies, its that they used this website to promote their own.

Well I can honestly say I found out about the site on another forum. If they were using this site to promote it then it was a bit silly as nothings a secret on here lol.

question for the owners if this is to much like hard work( going by your first post) why have you choosen not topass it on to someone with more time and ethusiasm to carryon the legacy of seatcupra.net???????

with respect to the for slae section imo what the owners/ admin did was just about the only thing they could have done given the scams going on !!! the forum was started by enthusiasts afterall not for proofit gains so no one should question why they did that!!

also awesome selling parts for employees etc imo is fine they pay a nominal fee each year ( without this the forum wouldnt be ) so they have the right to use there section as they wish !! if it goes wrong you have a direct point of use with awesome gti for allowing that to happen thus the fault lay with them and not forum owners

it really is that simple

my 2p's worth.

personally... yes i do slightly miss the for sale section however... its not essential for my use of this site as there are many other websites where you can sell/buy stuff (egay, gumtree, other forums).

I fully understand the sites reasons behind not having a for sale section as any tom **** or harry can sign up, post pictures of items, give address's, take money and not send the goods and vice versa, people can buy goods, recieve them and claim they never recieved them. The task of monitoring this would be incredible to fully prove all the details are correct. As with most people if sales went pear shapped then i would go to the site that provided the platform for the sale as they are the next best person to try and recover the deal/costs, as no doubt the seller wont respond/details you have are incorrect.

as with ebay/sites specifically set up for this kind of thing you will have teams/people there who specifically deal with this, unlike this site which is run as a hobby by a few people in their spare time which i am pretty sure they dont want to waste time fixing other peoples bad sales, so if it is the sites owners wish not to want the hassel related with classified then its their choice, there are plenty more sites to go to for buy sell stuff if you are willing to trust people.

with regards to allowing awesome to sell things in their classifieds on behalf of an employee, I again fully understand why they are allowed to over all of us normal members.

yes the sale is still between 2 individuals and not an individual and a company but in saying that surely if awesome who have been a long standing company with a more than happy customer base (i cant ever remember hearing a bad story about them) are happy to risk their name to help an employee sell items then it shows that they trust the employee not to screw over a buyer and im sure if the worst did happen they would do their best to rectify the situation as they wouldnt want their name associated with a bad sale. plus in this case you are likely to go straight to awesome if the sale goes t*ts up over scn staff thus freeing them of the burden.

and as previously mentioned the information for contacting awesome is readily available and can be checked easily to ensure it is correct where as if 'gac' (member above my post - apologies for picking you) gave me his/her address i wouldnt have a fricking clue how to ensure that was right other than driving there and speaking to them in person.

Hi Guys,

Just seen this thread so now feel a bit silly for starting this one in the General Discussion section!!

I can appreciate theres arguments both for and against a For Sale Section but surely the arguments For outweigh the against?

I have only just bought my Seat and finding parts is a little difficult so where better I thought than the biggest online Seat Forum?

I have read through this thread and its suggested that if a private sale goes pear shaped then Admin will be held responsible but that's just not the case!!

Its buyer beware.... theres only so much an Admin team can do and if folk must insist on sending either cash, paypal gift or direct bank transfers............. then expect to get scammed.

A for sale section will not take up much more of a mod teams time as its usually monitored by all the members who use it and if they suspect a scammer then just use the Report function.

Most for sale sections have a caveat in a stuck post saying that you deal in there at your own risk and just give some advice on how to complete transactions safely.

To me having a reliable parts for sale / parts wanted section would be a massive plus and surely if one could be reinstated without the previous issues would be hugely beneficial to all?
