It's the latest 7.1 android unit or so it says lol.

It's got a few hidden menus so yesterday I turned up the gain on the Bluetooth Mic input to flat out. Made zero difference

With that many issues surely it's either a faulty unit or a rubbish unit...

Do you get stereo sound from left to right if you play a speaker test track or something?

When I got a cheap £110 rcd510 unit from China the sound quality was the same and everything worked as it should but the interface was lacking shall we say lol

Yeah get stereo sound it's just amplified badly. It's easily half the quality of the standard unit. In fact I may just go back to that for now. Will see what the next couple of days bring I have more time to take a proper look

I know this thread is a few months old but since a few mentioned about upgrading to the RNS510 style unit from ebay, I would think twice. Below are my findings so far the unit cost £310 so I thought it would actually be a reasonable unit, it really does look the part and is very easy to use however these issues are found in less than a week.

The DAB stopped working within 5 mins (they are replacing the black box to see if this fixes it)

It takes about 2 minuets to boot up, useless if you want to have a reversing camera!

The FM tuner is rubbish!

The sound quality is rubbish (half the quality of the standard unit)

CDs dont play like in any normal head unit, the volume difference between radio and cd is massive. On CD if you turn it up to 15 it gets louder but above 15 and to max at 30 it gets quieter.

The Bluetooth microphone is terrible and not usable.

I think thats about it for now but overall not impressed! The seller claims he sells about 200 a month and has never had any issues before so yes I may have a dodgy unit which he will have to replace, however I will just want a full refund. Had this of been one of the £100 ones it would be expected. I will be contacting Preston ICE, if there unit has none of the above problems it will be worth the £450 or I will stretch to something like a pioneer one at about £600

Theres loads of these RNS style units, either windows CE or Android versions. I sold mine as Preston ICE wouldnt be able to upgrade the firmware.

I upgraded to the VW RCN210 which is a basic headunit and primarily i wanted it so i can have use my USB - Had it for 4 months and hasnt caused me any issues so im happy with it.

Alot of owners on the Seat leon groups on facebook are using the RCD330 and seems to be a high interest, i wouldve updated but as i have a 56 (2007) FR170 1P it requires a canbus gateway upgrade to avoid battery drain issues

The Kenwood ones made specifically for VW/SEAT's are meant to be really good

Just a little update on the unit I returned or for anyne brought here by a google search looking for RNS510 style units or MSautomotive based in Leeds.

Stay well away from them! Unit was awfal even the guys at preston ice said from the explination I gave it was a dud.

MSautomotive told me to pack it up and return it by opening a returns case in ebay, which I did along with sending a message asking them to confirm returns postage address. Like with everything else failed to respond so after a few days booked the returns and sent them a message saying when it would be with them and when I expect my money back and postage costs.

They then refused to sign for the delivery and decided to shut down the ruturns request on ebay. So now I have no head unit, no money and not very much to stand on by the sounds. I will be taking it up with trading standards in the week but currently about £350 down.

So to anyone thinking about buying one or stumble across this thread from a google search. Stay well away for this company.

It didn't come with a Mic just the standard built in one which is useless. It comes with removal keys so look on YouTube for vids to remove it buts it's easy once you key release keys in the right place.

I've got the unit back and eBay fully refunded my purchase price after spending hours on the phone to them. They can't do anything about the 25 I paid to return it when they refused it and told me to do what I like with the unit.

Funny enough they contacted me the next day waiting to arrange me to return it lol. I refused so they tried to get the police involved who were not interested so action fraud are now dealing with it.

Wow you really have had a bad time with them I fitted it this weekend into my fr 2010 facelift model everything is working good called a few people the sound is perfect and they said I sound fine on there end also radio signal on mone is fine too. Maybe it was a bad 1 you got but then they should be more helpful than they where also the surround fascia they supplied was not an exact match and now bugs the he'll out of me lol

Well at least that's some good news and yeah I have to agree would have thought they would replace it. What's it like when playing cds that's where sound quality was at it's worst and also playing like a copied CD with no CD text.

Funny enough my fascia was spot on probably the only good thing about it lol

Is that the only fault you found though?

I very much doubt they will get back to you. Probably play the same game with you as me.

Think they are just to be avoided to be honest

Ive actually just put it back in, its cost me nothing as I had a fully enforced ebay refund though the action fraud case is still pending against me.

Its a pile of crap though, I can get the DAB to work if I swap the usb each time

I plan to try root some of the issues if that makes sense. I have never done anything like it before but worth ago.

I will save and probs buy a pioneer unit later in the year though at the 1k mark

So basically what I get from this thread is that all after market head units are flaky at best...all I'm after is something that has bluetooth and dab and won't be a pain in the ass to install.

Yes, the main issue is the 'fully fitted'/RNS style units use very old and very out of date hardware, I mean you're talking nearly 10 years out of date here, so there's no wonder they are complete rubbish.

New universal units have much more upto date hardware and software and are worlds apart, you'd obviously need a Fascia adaptor to install one and they're double-DIN, usually with a 10" screen.

I've just bought a Kenwood DNX520VBT from eBay for £215, read like 10 threads on here raving about them.

Hopefully that's a good choice.....haven't even received the car yet, but remembering how terrible the radio looked made me get looking straight away.

Apparently the Garmin satnav is very good on the Kenwood and it's almost plug and play to install.

I think they were offered as an upgrade option when new, but don't quote me on that.

I have (well will have as of Saturday) a 2009 Leon FR which Im pretty certain now is pre FL.

I'll post back to let you guys know how it is once I've fitted the HU.

The Facelifts were introduced in 2009, 09 or 59 plate cars.
I thought it was a FL when I was buying and for a while after, but checking on here, mine has the older stereo and I think the older stearing wheel, so surely mine's a Pre FL?

However, it does have that little FR badge on the front bumper, which I know could be retrofitted easily, but was a sign of the FL I believe.

Hopefully I have an extra 10bhp afterall.

Guess I'll have a better idea of what it is on Saturday.
