What to buy Ibiza vs Leon!?!

Aright then fellas, first post on here and I've got a bit of a dilemma on my hands;

I've saved up and am in a position to buy a new car cash, but stuck on what to go for;

At a local dealership there is a 2011 Leon 2.0 TDI 170cr DSG, its got the btcc kit already fitted, and mapped to 210bhp, white, gloss black roof etc, very nice. 30k miles and costs £12995. I almost bought it but then I seen an Ibiza on piston heads (probs somebody's on here)

White 2009 seat bocanegra 1.4tsi DSG mapped to around 215bhp (from memory??)same colour white, gloss roof etc, All the bits fitted lovely car, 55k miles. £9250

I really can't decide on which one, for me reliability is very important as both cars are out of warranty, I imagine the diesel engine is more reliable but I really don't know, I'm not a 'petrolhead' like you lot (altho I do wish I had the knowledge)

So anyway it would be great if someone educate me on problems of the two cars and which one they would choose. Taking into consideration milage etc.

PS I work offshore and go back to work for 2 weeks in 5 days, if you help me Make the decision hopefully I can drive the car to Aberdeen! Haha

Cheers :D

Where are you based? The leon sounds very much like shnazzle's which he has just traded in for a 2.0tsi leon. If it's his then obviously it would be a good idea to ask him a few questions about it :)

Running 210bhp the DPF will have been removed. From feb 2014 if the DPF isn't present (visual check) then the car will fail it's MOT.

The 1.4TSi 180bhp engine can suffer from very heavy oil use, to the point at which SEAT are giving people new engines under warranty. I'd be wary as to wether it's a good car to invest in, especially out of warranty and if you have long journeys to do.

Please, whatever you do, don't rush into buying a car to drive to Aberdeen in 5 days. That would mean an impulse buy without working it through and ensuring you get the best car, it also means it spends a vital first two weeks of ownership (best time to find out any issues and get the garage to sort) in a car park doing nothing.

If you let me know where you are/where you've seen the leon/the reg of the car then I might be able to point you in the right direction :)

Cheers for the reply mate, I'm based in Sunderland :)

The Leon was at Evans halshaw in Gateshead, reg NL11 PSU, dunno if it has had reg changed recently though. I wouldn't mind finding the old owner like because obviously Evans staff aren't gonna tell me any dirty secrets about the car are they ha!

Yeah I have read about oil problems with 1.4 tsi, to be honest I would cover very little miles, I never normally drive up Aberdeen, it would just be a one off because of new car, I'm home for 3 wks at a time and maybe cover between 10-20 miles a day pottering around.

Yeah your about rushing im just getting a bit carried away I think haha

That's our lovely Leona. NL11 PSU.

It's a lovely car. We miss it a LOT.
It's got pretty fresh GoodyearEagle F1 tyres in the front but other than that it NEEDS a big service (DEFINITELY an oil change).

The car is not worth what they're asking unless they fix:
- The front near side passenger door's paintwork is shot to ****. It needs respraying desperately. This is because someone dented it at work and I had it resprayed and they used crappy paint which has gone yellow. That's about 400 quid for a SEAT spray job.
- front near side alloy has a big scuff. They're diamond cut wheels so expensive to fix!! Let them get it done.

Other than that mate it's a beast and I can only recommend it.

It's been remapped and de-DPFed at Sedox Sunderland.
Mind. It's a "Dave Special" map, not a Sedox Performabce map. My advice would be to get Revo on it.

We got about 12800 for it. So do me a fave and if you take it make them pay for the door and alloy so that they don't make a profit because they're RIGHT arseh0les.

Oh, and speak to Stewart and NOBODY else. They're idiots. But the price is decent enough and I can for 100% tell you the car is good (other than the above). Also don't let them service it. It doesn't have full seat service history so take it to a specialist.

I tried to look after the paint and it was always waxed heavily. But it could do with a summer machine polish.

Oh and they don't know it's de-DPFed :)
Don't tell them you spoke to me, let them play you for a fool.

If you're really clever: wait until Feb if you can to buy the car. That way you can go back and get them to put a DPF on because by Feb 1st they'll have sold you an unroadworthy car use to the change in mot law :) hahaha. Will cost them a fortune, save you a heap, and make the car 100% legal (granted you'd prob lose the map)

Unless you want to keep the DPF off anyway. As it does run very nice without it.

(Oh and the roof is carbon not gloss black :))

Ah I'm glad I've managed to find you ha! They are sneaky f*****s over there like, they were really pushing to try and get the car off the court THIS month, as I inorigionally wanted to pick up February when I get back from work.

They can wait then, I'll mention both alloy and door to them, but even still I'm stuck on what car to choose, I known it makes sense to get the deisel (or does it?) But I'm only 19 and don't do long journeys, Just potter about locally, and if I did get it I was planning to change a few things, like coilovers etc.

That Ibiza I mentioned keeps pulling me back in too,if you just type Bocanegra into piston heads classifieds you can we it then "fully loaded" in the title, its a nice bit of kit and comes with lots of extras, So nothing for me to spend really, but then again I suppose you don't know what's hidden under the bonnet do ya?

What do you lads reckon

We did an 8 miles journey to work and 8 miles back every day. That's it. On Sundays it got a 50 miles round trip. So I wouldn't say it was ever used for massive miles. We bought it with 14k miles I believe and had it for over a year. Still got some pretty good mpg out of it and saved a lot of money in fuel/tax/insurance.

I can imagine they're trying to get rid! Haha. They're going to regret the day we ever walked into their showroom. But then they shouldn't have made is wait a month for a 2nd (3rd) hand car.
:) My payback on all the crook dealers I've had to deal with over the past 5 years haha.
They had to get the entire low/high pressure fuel system replaced on my request on the LCR they sold me :)

All I can say is that the Boca will be quicker (possibly...got for a test drive of Leona and decide...3rd gear 2800rpm and foot down) but the Leon is much spacier and prettier.
The Boca will have a higher fuel bill. Leona will be higher on maintenance as she could do with a high-spec oil change every 5k miles or so. Says he who did 1 oil change in 15k miles.

Mind I also boosted the electronic "differential" to max so the brake pads will go a bit quicker. Leona's were still MOT-ok but have been punished.

At car shows the bocas and Leona got the same amount of attention, but generally people stopped and looked most at Leona. It's just a very pretty car with some lovely alloys.

It's also a driving type choice. I've had to learn to drive a turbo petrol again with the LCR. The power band is different on a mapped diesel. You drive on torque as opposed to horsepower. Mind, the torque delivery in that thing is quite lovely and I even miss it when booting the LCR.

yeah insurance is another thing to consider, 'Leona' will cost me £1600 where as the Boca will cost £2600, I did drive the car yesterday and I must admit I fell a little bit in love, and defo agree with you both, there was plenty of power no matter what gear, I was ready to put a deposit down but I held back so I could find out more info, glad I did!

I was originally in the market for a hot hatch, Clio rs200, that was until I read about reliability online and that idea quickly got shunted, its Defo going to be a Seat, but just can't decide which one, £4,000 difference in price, and the Boca has a lot done for me already, which is handy because I'll be honest I'm definitely nowhere near as clued up as you lads, let me near that engine and it will never drive again ha!

As i say i did love the leon yesterday,i think in person, she looks twice as nice as the pics that Evans put onlie, but I don't know whether its bad taste or just my youth but I prefer the look of that Boca, not Boca's in general, but the one in question, I think the owners made a good job of it,

Oh and as far as my driving type choice, I don't think I've really developed one yet due to being stuck in an 05 plate 1.2 CORSA for 3 years!!! Haha!!

Even if you like bocas it doesn't have to be that one, make sure you have a good look over whatever you choose. Cosmetic mods can always be carried out, if anything a standard car lets you put your own stamp on it

Yeah its lovely isnt it! Ive hit a bit of a roadblock though, the only company that have been willing to insure me after weeks of searching is Bell, part of admiral i think, they want £2600 upfront, but ive just realised they fit a smart box to your car!! the next cheapest is admiral themselves at £3100! I work offshore aswell so for half of the year the car is garaged, surely theres a company that can take that into consideration :( nightmare

Awesome :( I'll have to check that when I come to renew then.

To be fair if insurance wasn't so expensive people wouldn't feel the need to tell porkies.

How do you know he isn't on here?

Cue the "check out my new Leon thread"

Haha indeed. It was clearly someone who has been looking as is keen on Leons, to snap it up over the phone.

They'll get the shock of their life when they see the n/s/f door and alloy :)
