Thumbs up Roof Bars

Just in case anyone is interested, I have the SEAT roof bars for the Leon, and they are excellent. The construction and finish is first class and the fit is perfect. They are extremely simple and quick to fit and are secured using key locks. Very good all round.

I had difficulty locating after market roof bars for the Leon, so haven't seen any others, but compared to Halfords own etc. these are the business! They do cost more than after market, but as always - you get what you pay for...... in this case anyway.

Laurie.

I have one, but it's a volvo
Bought it used off some guy with a volvo. Very good, but unless your lugging a DH or FR machine one of the regular thule ones should work fine.

Thanks, I think that's good value, not too much more than a universal kit from Halfords, and much better quality I expect.

Roof bars good quality. Plastic cover bits that lock can fall off when fitting (they dont break, just a bit annoying).

I looked around for cycle carriers and if it is for MTB, only one option really. That is the Thule 510. V. good. I looked at the Halfords deluxe carriers but they only fit to the thinner roof bars.

The Thule 510 fit using the slot in the top. Bikes can attach in 30 seconds. They lock the bike to the carrier and the carrier to the roof bars (with bike attached and without bike attached). Setup if v. easy. Put bike in track, lift arm and shut, push straps to wheels and tie. Jobs a good un.

I didnt want to spend 70 quid a piece but now that I have, v. pleased.

And I think the Thule single key system will fit both the bike carriers and the roof bars.

My opinion. Tops!

The bike carriers are excellent. The load carriers usually are as well. The twin bar setup of the 4305 kit (for leon/toledo) makes alot of wind noise though.

So I'm better off opting for the Thule bike carrier on the Seat roof bars? Bike I will be carrying is cross between road bike and MTB - tyres not quite as thick as MTB.

The roof bars and the bike carriers fitted excellently with the people carrier.

Just put them all in the back along with the christmas tree, the old wood, garden rubbish etc etc.

In fact, everything goes in it!!!! (apart from fun!)

cerij,

I would recommend the Seat bars and Thule 510 bike carriers if you need a fully locking system.

Just as Harry mentioned, I'd get the seat bars and the thule 510 or 511 (I have one of both).

Are the Thule bars slotted into the T track or are they fixed between the door seal ?

£50 more for the Seat bars (£130) and Thule bars (£80).

Also the Seat bike rack is now £100 each and the Thule 510 is £60 each.

So to carry 2 bikes ;

Seat want £330
Thule want £200
Recommended combination at £250. (Seat bars/Thule racks)

Can't really compare the bike carriers because the Seat one, has the hydraulic arm that lifts the bike onto rack (therefore alot more money). I like the thule bike carriers & don't think the seat one is worth the money, unless your carrying a DH rig.
