I've noticed recently there's quite a few people coming across problems with their 110 tdi engines.

I think it would be helpful for others if anyone with the 110 tdi engine could list the problems they've had and what the signs were as the problems developed, and how it was cured.

I've had no problems so far (touch wood!) so I've nothing to list... yet. lol.

Hi, Just clocked up 100k and not had a problem:D. Change oil via Pela pump every 8k. Cambelt done at 75k,may have been done before I got it but couldn't take the chance(Aux belt as well).Apart from tyres thats it.

No Problems in the 2 years I have had the car, Its got about 74k on the clock now, regular oil changes and a good belting up and down the A5 once a week seem to be doing the trick

Its Leon 110TDI se

i havent seen the 110 with alot of problems.

I personally had the N18 faulty, swapped with the N75 to diagnose and then replaced, but otherwise it ran like a dream for 60k until i sold it.

The usual problem people have with them is sticky turbos / EGR. Usually down to driving style/conditions. Nothing a strip and clean wont sort out.

This is turning into a "list your problem-free 110 tdi's" thread!

Just within the past month or so I've noticed a fair amount of threads in the TDI section mentioning stuff going wrong with the 110 engine. But I guess these problems may have been down to lack of care/servicing and not generic problems that WILL happen then?

Mine's on 77k and still feels like new, so touch wood, I should have no problems if I keep good care of the old girl.

180k miles on the clock. Toledo 2001.....110bhp. I've had it for 6 years now. Bought it at 50k miles.

Mass Air Flow Meter went at 150k. (replaced with OEM)
Thermostat went at 100k. Replaced it and it went again!
Secondary air intake hose blew off last week (but that we due to last timing belt service....they didn't secure the jubilee clip correctly)

Had to replace front brake discs because old ones were worn down and starting to warp.

Nothing serious has ever gone wrong. Still running smooth.
Keep her serviced and she'll go forever.

Front suspension needs some work now....bushes are on the way out!

But a very reliable car. Gets me around without fail!

Sold mine at 173k.

And had ran for 30,000 miles remapped!

Apart from oil, filters and timing belt - only needed to change:

coolent temp sensor
Exhaust and CAT
Alternator
Starter Motor

I more or less agree with Trebormint..............however mines only done 84K but I will say it is better now than at 40K !!!...& I think thats down to me Exercising the Turbo vanes Often & getting them loosened up like they should be (although from my rallying days things worked alot better just before they went bang !)
Anyway, yes other than that bit of DIY not in the service manual bit of work I've also :
Changed coolant sensor
Changed MAF
Changed Alternator

Batterys Original !!!!!!!

I also try & change my Engine oil every 5-6K using Mobil 1 0W-40 Diesel.............because I usually while I'm on call have to do low temperature quick starts so I want something around the Turbo Bearings ASAP.

I disabled the EGR prob at about 40K (by closing off the vacuum pipe)

Other than that nothing else out of ordinary.

No TDI things like Radiator & Widscreen wiper mechanism started to seize up.

This is encouraging!

You're always going to get more negative than positive posts reliability wise on these type of forums as people will post when looking for help, not when everything is fine!

For the record mine is on 76k with no engine problems (had brakelight switch go and wiper mech seize but that could happen to any leon/toledo)

got mine at 52k now on 102k

changed belt and oil/ filters every 5 - 8 k (gets to 5k then when I get around to doing it..)
had a sticky turbo for a bit but now its gone...
smashed my sump on a speed bump 350 ish (including £120 tow)
currently in the garage for a ticking noise coming from the belts (aux he thinks and is changing the alternator clutch)

its always had a squeak from the rear (never bothered with it)
Paint is like icing sugar....
my rear lights went off and the glow plug light started flashing, removed brake light switch depressed a few times re fitted two months ago and still fine :).
doors leak into the car ffs fixed 3 times and still does it....

cannot remove stereo damnit i have tried
3 kids and a hoarding missus, messy sods

I had this before my last timing belt change. I told them to check it out, but they said they found nothing....
However, when I got the car back, with new timing belt, all was well!
Not sure if it was the old belt, or the water pump.
Shouldn't have been either of them because I change them every 60k!

Read on here that Aux might have been the problem, but they didn't mention it in the garage!
Anyway, she's quiet again, no ticking sound :D

Thats pretty encouraging, if a problems thread is nothing more than stating how reliable they are! Will suit what im looking for from a car very nicely, just need to find myself a good example now ...

Mine's on 115K, had it 6 months.

Thing that has gone wrong... Replaced climate controller as that had something spilt on it!

I didn't trust the garage I got it at so I've just put it through a full service at my local garage and got them to do Cambelt/waterpump as well as MOT. Sailed through with no probs at all, they did say that the oil was the blackest they've seen for a while so I'm going to book it in after Chrimbo to get it done again!!!

had a '53 Leon 110TDi - ran up 145k on it with no major problems, however word of warning - was due to exchange it for an 07 Leon FR, but bless her she died - CAM belt failure, not total, but did lose enough teeth to cause a big problem - hadn't been picked up as an issue at it's 140k service, maybe I should have done it as a matter of course, worth considering guys!

Sorry to drift off-topic, but I'm just wondering if your ticking noise went away. Mine has the same problem until the engine warms when it seems to stop. It's actually the 90bhp AHU engine but has been doing exactly what you describe and sounds like it's coming from the aux belts. Other than the odd noise here and there, 100% reliable with 146k on the clock!

Hi, Have the same problem when cold. Local mechanic thinks its a common problem with higher mileage Tdi's injection pumps ticking when cold, certainly nothing to worry about?

Mines fine now :) £80 from a local "diesel specialist" <-- used very lightly!!!

It must have been the Alternator clutch or he just replaced the Aux belt and charged me extra lol! either way its ok now.

Had it from 96k. Now on 106k.

Faulty MAF.
Failed Engine temp sensor (dash sensor, not ECU one)
Remote locking no longer works, and lock now getting stiff.
Cracked wing mirror cover (despite them being folded in... nice one general public)
Rear washer jet leaking into boot, now fixed.

Slightly odd sound coming from the air-con pump and the air con is cr@p.

Front and rear demisters are really slow some times.

Slight hesitation on start if its cold.

Apart from those little niggles, I love the silver bitch....

Debating weather to upgrade to an FR+ 150 TDi in 6 months.... temptations...
