Conrod through block help

Hi all, well as title states i am buying a friends curpa r for £1500 which has a done engine because of the above reason. Is it best to just buy a whole new block for a grand and change it or get it rebuilt?

Just keep hearing different stories about changing engines, ecu/key problems with a new engine etc. Had this problem in the past with different cars and need a good knowledge person from here to confirm if buying a different engine will work with current ecu with no problems etc.
Ive seen a few on ebay for around £1k and can change it myself, also auti s3/tt 225 engines keep popping up and same question about ecu's etc for this engine as well.

Any help is much appreciated.
