Tips for chav-blitzing acceleration

Hi all
Got me TDI in for a bit of "tarting up" at the bodyshop, picking it up tomorrow, should look pretty cool, i'll post some pics once its done. Desperately pining for the power after the 1.3 Ford Ka they've given me! OH MY GOD ITS SO SLOW!!!

Anyway, what I wanted to find out is this.

Without sounding too up myself, I reckon I'm a pretty good driver and know my car pretty well, but was wondering if I could get a bit more out of it in terms of acceleration?

Like what sort of rpm to sit at before I drop the clutch without getting too much wheelspin, and whats the best rpm to change gear?

Bearing in mind its a 6-speed revo'd PD130, has anyone whos been up the drag strip in a tdi got any decent tips?

On the odd occasion my car suprises me with immense pull of the line and its really hard to replicate!!

I've also got 205/40/18 tyres on, so I have plenty of rubber on the road aswell.

Stif out

Isnt a badge with with a red "I" just 110bhp?!

Anyway, I have a PD130 Ibiza and find gear changes at 4000rpm just right.

As for wheel spinning etc, well if I dont wanna wheel spin, I dont turn TC off

Not if its an Audi badge, I think if its 110bhp+ it gets a red 'I'.
Plus it makes chavs think its only 110bhp! haha!

Well I guess if it's a 6 speed then it's a PD130 or 150 i've got a CustomCoded PD130 and it go's like Fook as far as accelerations concerned forget the traffic light grand prix, it's a waste of time, too much torque and not enough grip, all my fun happens in 3rd 4th n 5th between 2.5k and 4.3k....... and it's like a freakin rocket As Sparkster say's wots ur bhp and lbft ?

Every car will have it's own perfect driving method,,, you should ask to someone who's got the same car, with same tyres and same remap and you'd still have something different,,,

ibiza's are too much lighter than yours, the leon has different weight distibution, they both might have different gearing and again what about the tyres?

practice, practice, practice,,,

Aye

I find taking mine all the way to the red (5000rpm) works best - sure, power and torque tails off, but you come in higher up the rev range in the next gear. The 150 seems to pull quite well even at high revs though, not so sure about the 130.

Yeah the 130/177's just the same except i'd change up bout 4k coz all the torques gone by 3.5k anyway, there again I spose max bhp isn't hit till bout 4300

Torque doesnt matter too much once your on a sprint. Torque is more important for that initial burst of acceleration when you plant the throttle.

It amazes me how many people do not understand this.

Indeed. Which is why I change up very late, to come in higher up the POWER band.

Off Topic: Shame you got rid of your Fabia Mr Birkett, I'll look out for your Golf on the way into the toon though.

Aye it was a shame. Still miss it in many respects, even though the Golf does handle far better.

Not sure I'd fancy my chances against your car in it though, but its quick enough to be amusing I guess...

Also, not sure where you live, but the chances of us crossing paths are dimished as I now live up the Stamfordham Road part of Fenham...

Must be somewhere around 180-190 I should imagine. Not too long ago I did standing sprint against my brothers mates Bora 2.8 V6 (about 187bhp IIRC) just because he wanted to see how a Revo'd TDI would go. He was pretty suprised that I stuck with him until about 120mph, despite having 50k more miles on the clock, a slightly heavier car and chunkier heavy alloys.
I've raced quite a few similarly weighted cars in it with 180-210 bhp, and have beaten or kept up with them, so I would like to say that 180bhp is a minimum.
