Lowering springs

Hi, I've thinking in lowering my car and since coilovers are a bit way too expensive I turned to the lowering springs, I've been searching and found some different brands and one of them, that catched my eye were the H&R's because they lower more at the rear.

The other ones were Vogtland, Eibach (from what i searched these are the ones that give the least change in height), ST, Apex, etc.

What feedback can you give from the H&R and the other ones ? I have a ibiza fr 1.6 tdi.

Also do I have to buy something else to install the lowering springs ? I read that you need to buy shorter droplinks but I'm not sure if that's only for coilovers or to lowering springs too.

I personally prefer coilovers myself but lowering springs from h&r are very good. I had them on my previous polo and they were very nice and made the car look that little bit meaner.

Lowering springs are not as comfy as coilovers in my opinion, I understand the price or coilovers is double the price of a decent set of springs, if that but you get what you pay for. I have Ap coilovers on my 1.2 tsi and they are brilliant for £400.

The drop links you are correct with, you will need Ford Puma ones as the anti roll bar will start rubbing on the driveshaft if you dont have shortend ones, some people have had this problem some havent, I did. Not sure if its if you going lower than 30/40mm you need to change them.

I ordered the H&R. Let's see if they are any good. I read mixed reviews on this model. Some say they are very uncomfortable some say it's good, we'll see.

I think I will buy the puma droplinks aswell, it's not that expensive and since I will remove the suspension it's cheaper to do both things.

Do you think they will affect negatively the suspension if they are not needed ? Since the springs lower 25mm on the front.

I'm on h&r springs in my 1.4tsi cupra, I like the ride i find it's exciting to drive with it being a bit stiffer, passengers say otherwise especially rear seat passengers over speed bumps, but I enjoy it so that's all that matters!

Got the springs today, I thought they were going to be black as it shows on amazon but they are blue. Is this normal?
Also the springs have some scuffs and chipped paint which led me to believe they were used before but I'm not sure.

Jamesenty did your rear springs came together inside a bubble bag or separated? Also did you use shorter droplinks?

I haven't gone for any drop links, I've seen they are more for track use??? Which I won't be doing.
And I think they would of come in a good box and plenty of bubble wrap, depends how well they have been packed and handled.
If they are h r springs then yeah they are blue!

Is the reference of your springs 29018-2 ?

I was reading the sheet that came with them, with german and english text, on page 4 there's this note "To avoid a contact of sway bar and steering track rod,2 in each case 8 mm wide H&R-Aluminium alloy steering stop limiter(HR80-X036A01 / - A03) are to install (according to the H&R-Installation instruction);recommended for permissible front axle load more than 860 kg."

I've talked with a person that has the same model number springs the difference is his engine is 1.4 tdi and mine 1.6 tdi. I asked him and he said it doesn't hit anything just install the springs and it's good to go. I'm a bit confused but oh well we'll see if hits or not when it is installed.

Here's some pics. Do you see the retouched paintm strange isn't it ? The box was sealed no traces of the tape being removed before, I already contacted H&R about this.

I installed the same kit 29018-2 (25/40) on my cupra 1.8TSI 2016.
The box came just with the springs, nothing else.
Also on my springs there were "retouched paint" and dots with missing paints.
Everything is installed and working properly for now(have it only for 4 days)...

I installed the rear springs today and wow what a difference it made already. The only problem is when i measured the height, the rear passenger side is 0.5cm lower than driver side but strangely on the front, passenger is higher than driver side.

What could be the problem here? Also is it possible that this springs gave more camber? It looks like it did.

maybe you mix between them ? it does not make sense, the shorter & buffier ones should be in the front.
And after springs installation you need to perform front adjustments.

No I only installed the rear ones yet, i will check them again today since the passenger side was making a creaking noise not sure if it is the bolt that is not enough tight or the spring is moving on the spring cup since it had some scratch marks from the old ones.

Took an entire day to just take one strut out, that thing didn't wanted to come off holysh**. Now I can't take the strut bolt itself, I thought there was only one on the top near the wipers but there is one more nut on the strut itself and it's impossible to take that off, tried wd40, oil, stripped the teeth of a vicegrips, broke the Allen key had to buy another one, stripped a bit of strut nut, used long tubes to make leverage, all this with 2 persons and that thing didn't budge.

Any tips?

Do you have the new cupra? if so they moved back to the old ways with that front strut.
I saw my mechanic with 2 more guys trying to open it, it took them 10 min!!
Go to a mechanic before you ruin something.

The left rear side is sitting 5mm higher than the right side. I read that it can happen due to the spring coil end orientation, some people said that both should be pointed to the driver side so that's what i did turned the springs so the bottom coil end points to the driver side, left side in my case. But that didn't solved the problem unfortunately.
Did it happened to you too?
