Hi Guys I have got some hand brake problems,

My hand brake has always been crap and is sticking on one side and got a mot advisory on this for last 2 years now for this, this year the mot guy said my calliper is leaking so it needed sorting.

I have put on new rear disks, pads and new rear callipers on both sides but my hand brake is still crap,

just looked at my handbrake adjuster under the rear ashtray inside the car and one side in pulling a lot further then the other side is this the norm??

everything is new so my hand brake should be working well now so I thought lol

any help would be good please

your handbrake cables are probably stretched they are not to difficult to change

Sounds like it’s been wound tighter and tighter without being done correctly.
Cables are only about a tenner. I had similar problems.

Not done it myself as body a bit broken but Aparently pretty easy to change over.
Usual problem is not tensioning using both cables.
People just open it up at hand brake and think it can be wound tighter and tighter with one bolt being turned.
This stretches one cable more that the other etc. Sorry that’s not too technical
But pretty sure someone can explain how it should be done right.

There is a how to on here somewhere.

Basically you need to undo both cable ends from the calipers (with the handbrake not on)

Go to adjuster and loosen it quite a bit off - for me that is the most boring and tedious part of the whole job.

apply brakes a couple of times, reattach cable ends to calipers.

start winding the adjuster back in (boring bit again)

You want to stop when the handbrake takes 4-7 clicks to apply.
