Neil why do you allways presume chipped ibizas can't be quicker than a Clio cup or CTR ,
Is it because over 1/4 mile there is nothing in it ??
A friend of mine has a mildly tuned 2.0 16v mk2 ibiza that has done 1/4 mile at YORK in 14.9 and a 0-60 of 6.9 secs ,
Is it faster than a clio cup in real world driving ?? i very much doubt it .
it certainly doesn't get anywhere near my car or Madmiles WHY ??
because in real life most race senarioes are from 40 mph - 150 mph
All 1/4 mile racing proves about the ibiza is the fact it has too much power to get down off a standing start .

I have allways said the Clio and Cup have been closer in a race than the CTR which is what this thread is about .

Nicole, sorry i mean neil. Because of you all the ctr's 172, and cups dare not go near a 20vt cupra in Cleveland because when they do they get a good spanking  . Keep looking in your rear view mate i might just be there ;) .

Have also had a race with 2 ctr and beat them both you get the look im in a ctr your in a seat then you blow them away as for the handling
i would say it was about the same the race was from 20mph up to 140mph. And neil82 one of my pals just got a 172cup it has a full system on it the car dynoed at 183bhp and i and take the piss out of him in a straight line but it has alot better handling.

I'm struggling to get a proper grip of this thread. Because, the title Honda civic Type R v's Chipped Ibiza Cupra hasn't really got any limits as such. What sort of modds are we talking about?
If it is a simple chip, fair enough. But some of you guys are getting a little carried away really. Of course a Cupra with 80bhp over standard will beat a CTR/CUP, but it's hardly a fair comparison. If a CTR/CUP had that sort of bhp upgrade it would leave a Cupra for dead.

What we should really be comparing is a Cupra with simular power to a CTR/CUP......

Neil where you from. The Northern smoggies may be having a meet at York drag strip, you could show us how the strip is done, intrested?.

Look at the Northern smoggies meet. For dates and some info. Love to see your clio on the strip. Not saying we will beat you, but we could have a go.

There is a clio sport meet on there this weekend I think?! There should be a couple of fast Clios for you to race.

I'm going to be going against the grain here a bit but...

I have two very good friends both of which own a Clio172 Cup & Civic Type-R(apid)

At work we have a very, very long runway to play on till our hearts content :D

As you can imagine we are frequent visitors :D

We have raced to many times to remember and as far as i'm concerned both the Clio 172 & Civic are MUCH quicker than the standard Cupra.

We as Cupra owners have to spend some serious cash to be up there with them and even MORE cash if he heads towards a twisty road. Also, if i'm right in saying the Clio costs less to buy than a Cupra!

Anyhow, we could all just sack it and agree to disagree!

:) of course a CTR blows a standard cupra, 197 v 156 bhp, why when my brother bought one, i had to mofify my car, can't have my younger bro having a quicker car then me.

We have not raced that much, but in the ones that we have, mine is definatly the quicker off the line, and about upto 100, after that there's not much in them.

As i have said before if hes in front on the twisties i can't get past, and if i'm in front on the straights he can't catch me.

Main advantage the cupra has, its very quick in any low gear at any given time, until type R is ringing its own neck there as agile as a civic 1.6 lol.

The Civic & Clio Cup are quite even in practice, although the Civic appears to go mental high up in the rev range and flies away :D

I've never been in either car when they're playing i've only ever TRIED to keep up

I don't agree with the Cupra R brake comment, i've been in the Civic when he's anchored on and it stops! FAST!

On another note the Civic is very deceptive in been quick(if that makes sense) in the Cupra you experience a pull low down which makes it feel fast whereas in the Civic the pull is less obvious but you can bet it'll be going just as quick. I think its called iV-tech (intellegent V-tech) the cams adjust for acceleration in all gears.

You can't knock it. And, for £15k i'd give up my Ibiza today!

The CTR brakes piss all over the standard cupra set up, can't speak for the ibiza cupra R, as i have never drove one, but i have driven the leon cupra R and the brakes in that blew me away, in fact it was embarising because i kept on stamping on them too hard  , and it was a few miles before i had adjusted.

When i got back in my cupra, made it feel like the pads where glazed

The LCR brakes where far better than the CTR brakes, thought i had just better add that :D, although CTR brakes do a dam fine job.
