Hi Scott, did you manage to look at the filler flap? Can I also ask how many miles you do a year, and was a diesel FR ever a consideration, did you get a drive in both? I've driven a Cupra but not an fr tdi.

Just checked and I stand corrected see attached.

I have been fortunate to have been borrowing an FR SC diesel for about a month (the 150). And had the FR 2L ST prior to that for a fortnight (see the main website for a review). The ST was great and plenty fast enough. Not a fan of the 150 engine on the SC though. Quite rattly.

Ok thanks. Well I can give you a direct comparison having coming close to buying an ST and taking it for a couple of test drives. All my humble opinion of course....

Cheers Scott,

Interesting points made there - of course the good thing about us humans is stuff like this is all subjective so no offence taken in any way shape or form. I'd be gutted if everyone in my town had an SB MK3 ST3 - the colour does stand out (when it's clean! - Who has the time?).

I'm pretty brand agnostic TBH - last car was a Land Rover preceeded by a MK5 Ibiza Cupra which replaced a WRX STi which replaced an Audi A3 DSG blah blah blah so I'm not likely to leap to the defence of the ST like a Ford fanboi :).

The Focus is the best handling front driver I've owned - but the torque steer was... um.... surprising to say the least. Mrs Andy bricked it when I floored the thing for the first time. Used to it now but it could catch the unwary out. But, aside from that, the electronics do a reasonable job of tidying things up if you get a bit exhuberant! Lots of wheel hop instead of wheel spin though - sorted with uprated engine mounts but CBA. Can't hope to beat the Cupra with its LSD though.

The full leather eleccy Recarros are something else I do around 15K miles per year and they are brilliantly supportive and comfy. So the seats will be an important factor as I'm not getting any younger ;-). The dash is a bit busy but it gives you plenty to do when sat stationary on the morning commute! LOL.

I'm not sure about the mid-life crisis colour thing though. I reckon any of us over a certain age (I'm 45 and love my red brake callipers) could be accused of this when we drive an expensive hot hatch. Anyway, I did my mid-life crisis early on and bought a bike at 29 :D.

I'm just waiting to see the thing in the metal and make a judgement based on a test drive and cost to change (only just had the Focus for a year). I really want to get back into a car with DSG and some serious poke so the Cupra fits the bill from that point of view and all the pro reviews have been stunning. That said, it's real world experiences like yours and the other fortunate souls on here who have the interminably long wait to get their hands on the good stuff that really counts.

I'll be watching your progress with great interest fella!

Thanks for taking the time to reply - much appreciated.

Cheers

Andy

Thanks Scott, appreciate you confirming. So 98 preferred but 95 is ok too...

Like Andy above I do around 15k per year, so got the diesel / petrol debate going on in my head. Your mpg figures are promising mind you, I did manage to eek 38mpg out of a Cupra I test drove recently. Just not tried the diesel, been in a VAG 2.0tdi cr for the past five years and my petrol head is getting impatient :)

Cheers
Rob :)

You running it on 98 then Scott? I ran our standard mk2 on tesco momentum for 4 fills but really couldn't tell the difference. Switched back to 95 and have run on it since.

Yes my MK2 was always run on Tesco Momentum but it was mapped for the higher RON.

I'm running the new Cupra on Shell VPower only.

Cheers,

Scott

Just added the side skirts to my Cupra order after seeing them fitted to an FR yesterday which happened to be parked next to the demo Cupra. Really finish the look of the car off well and worth the money in my opinion.

Cool. :D

I'll be asking for a free set if SEAT don't sort my missing badge out soon. It left the factory over three weeks ago. It can't take them that long for the factory to get badges sorted and one sent over surely.

Maybe the 280 badges are a myth? Anyone ever seen one other than on the batch of press jolly cars? None of the dealer demos (a few of which are already up on autotrader) have them.

Lolz. If I buy new I'll be asking for a de-badge. I like to keep an air of mystery about me :)

Anyone know if these machine polished wheels can be easily repaired or am I looking at a new wheel?

If the latter that's gonna hurt (and eat into my side skirt fund).

The annoying thing is I don't even remember it happening or noticed hitting a kerb.

I never kerbed my MK2 in 7 years of ownership (only the wife did).

Noooooo!! Feel for you mate, but it is sods law with a new motor. I'd look to get a repair first. My wife did the same on her Mini within 2 days of picking it up (but much worse than that). We had it repaired by one of those guys who come out to do it on site. It was OK for 6 months or so, but then the lacquer started peeling.

One thing I like about black painted wheels is they are easy to touch up yourself. Ours has a couple of very small nicks but once touched up with gloss black paint they are hardly noticeable.
