I've got a 2011 Ibiza 1.6 cr tdi sport and the engine management light came on the other day, and then went into limp mode, i managed to get the car home and then it wouldnt restart, I got a VAGCOM scan done a couple of days later and the car restarts and runs ok before any faults were reset.

the scan is showing 2 faults and I would like to know if it is possible to change the crank sensor myself at home and where abouts is it located

any ifo is greatly appreiciated

It shut be located near / behind the oil filter housing.

Fault Priority: The fault requires an immediate service appointment.

However, this raises a question about your timing belt condition.?

Hi Marty
Thanks for the info and it's a good point about the belt, it had sort of slipped my mind. Have to get it sorted!

Have a look at your engine harness for chaffing and visually inspect MAP sensor wiring too.

Another thing I didn't like was the coolant temp at 135 degrees displayed in the bottom 2nd error code.

Let us know what you'll find. Cheers Mate.

Hi Marty

The coolant isssue is what started it all of I think, the car faulted in Dec a couple of times - temp warning light came on but the the garage couldn't find a fault with his code reader.

The prob didn't happen again til last week , this time the glow plug light came on and the car went into limp mode, then as i pulled from a junction I think I may have stalled the car and bump started at the same time?

I have used the VAGCOM to monitor the temp when driving and the car was running at around 85C ish but eventually the temp blipped up to 130C and then flicked back to 85C and intermittenly flicked up to around 135 and back, this caused the temp light and alarm to come on.

I think I'll get the temp probe changed and check the wiring/plug for any damage or bad connection.

Thanks

Check your temperature sensor at ambient temperature in the morning. It shut not be far off.

Did you try your hoses on the heater exchange matrix, differences in temp? The problem with the cooling system is that the diagnostic via obd is almost impossible. Obviously, there must be a problem in your sensor, wiring, thermostat or water pump, especially if the impeller breaks. Ideally, have they measured the temperature with an infrared thermometer or something?

But again it depends, what is your level of experience?

I got the coolant temperature probe changed and now the readings run steady with no blips or peaks.

I've been running the car for over a week now and my commute is 55 miles a day, so the problem appears to be solved, for now. I'll have to monitor the issue.
