2010 SEAT CUPRA 1.4 DSG

Hi All, 3 months ago my car died on the motorway, there was a sudden loss of power. RAC came out and checked the coils and advised that i need new plugs and new coils.

I had a mechanic come out and replace all the plugs and all the coils, once completed he advised its firing up but feels like one of the cylinders were not working and the whole car felt like it was bouncing. He also advised that the spark plug on number 2 was scorched and also had a snapped bit that will be in the engine.

He checked the compression and advised that the compression on 2 is very very low and that the only way forward is to open the engine.

So im abit stuck, im only willing to put £2k in to the car and then sell but not sure how to proceed and thinking about selling as spare/repair. I have no idea what the total cost could be or what the problem could be, i have been quoted £450 to take the engine apart and find out what the issue is. Has anyone been in this situation ?

The oil was low but no warning light and just about made it home when it died.

Thanks
Liam

Hi, how long have you owned this car, and was it bought from a SEAT main dealer?

Prior to you buying this car, did you do your homework as to what might go wrong with a car with the CAVE engine fitted?

I've never ever owned a VW Group car with this engine but I can understand why some people have been willing to take a gamble with them as they sound like that are amazing engines - for as long as they stay working. I think that there are many parts that need replacing to get a "failing" engine back to being a good engine again, ie repair by way of upgrading it.

Maybe do some research on this forum for what people normally do in your situation, and take it from there, I'd doubt if there is a market for a Cupra 1.4 Twincharger for spares as there will be many out there without a well running engine.

I hope that someone with knowledge of these cars replies to this thread, good luck!

Edit:- how much if any of the normal SEAT upgrade/fixes had already been applied to that engine?

Another Edit:- right, looking back through all the threads you have started on this car's problems, I see that you have had this car for over a year and have been pointed in the direction of what could be wrong with it and how to get that sorted out, so why are you not handing that car into a proper indep SEAT specialist and get a price from them to correct all that needs correcting to get this engine up to the latest/best level of upgrade so that it is reliable - or just bin it?

There's a huge thread on here going into lots of detail about the issues with the twin-charged engine, it doesn't make for comfortable reading if yours is broken though.

Having low compression is pretty bad news
