Should i be considering an oil different to 505 01 if my 150 fr tdi has been Revo'd...?
The dealers advised me that any PD TDI running over 150bhp should use 506.01 (the longlife stuff) - and 506.01 is specified for the Ibiza Cupra PD160. :)

Paulo,

hav eyou heard of a new 507.01 spec to replace the 506.01 due to engine failures. It is supposed to be 5w30 instead of 0w30 in the old spec.

I have not... :) Sould like a bit of bad news for VW though.

I think I had mentioned it already, but I use the 505.01 because of the heavier weight. For one it doesn't get that cold here to need the 0W, and I swap oil every 10000km (and I use an oil cooler, so less oil breakdown due to high temps).

did I mention the 506.01 is more expensive... :cartman:

i use Castrol TXT 5w-40 505.01 special for TDI-PD....i change it every 10k max 12k km and ALL the filters...

should i use Castrol LL 506.01 (i'm running ~180hp now and soon over 200 i hope)?

Engine failures???? Hope not! ive been using it for over 100,000 miles and still ok. I get the oil from the dealer as it was cheap, i was getting 5 litres for 45 euro. I went to the dealer for some the other day and they told me they cant get it anymore and they tried to sell me an "equivalent" 506.00. I wouldnt like my car getting serviced by that dealer if thats whats going in now.

Anyone ever hear of valvoline 505.01? i thinks its 5w 40W. I used it once or twice and ive found it doesnt disappear in the engine as much as the 506.01 stuff.

Only MOTUL specific vw 505.01. 506.01 makes no sense for me, as most folks change the oil every 10000km... It has only better sooth absorption, and it does NOT produce more hp :).

This is all very confusing! was looking at getting Castrol Edge, had a look on the website at the FAQ's

Q Which is the replacement for the SLX Longlife II oil?
A. This is the EDGE 5W-30 - the Longlife oil was a 506.00 / 506.01 specification – you’ll notice that the spec on the EDGE 5W-30 is VW 504.00 / 507.00 – this is the latest VW specification for the Longlife oils and is backwards compatible; meaning it can be used where the 506.00 / 506.01 / 503.00 specification is required.

The EDGE 5W-30 is suitable for all Audi vehicles, and all VW vehicles that do not specify the 505.01 (fixed servicing), for which EDGE 5W-40 should be recommended.

but if i topped up with this then I would be adding 5-30 to 0-30 oil??

"VW505.00

Basically for all of the older diesel (read non-PD) diesel engines:

1.6 & 1.9 D/TD/SDI/TDI90/TDI110 & 2.5TDI & 3.3TDI"

What does he mean ? how much older ?

What should i use on a 2004 Leon 1.900cmc 110CP ? Diesel ofcourse...

Does that qualify as "older" or does he mean "ancient" ? :D

i take it 110CP is 110 KW AKA 150bhp

in that case u need 505.01 or 506.01 if u want to use long service periods , id go with 505.01 and change it regulary

I have asked this question elsewhere under "TDI"'s but as this is an Oil sticky....has anyone used Halfords own 506.01 5W40 ??..............its not that expensive & made by Comma...........but before using it would be good to know if someone else does. My TDI only requires 505.00 but to get a good quality one (mobil 1 Diesel 0W40) its about twice as much as Halfords (higher spec it seems) 506.01

2ndly am I right in that as this is a 506.01 (& correct me if I'm wrong this is a spec for PD's & Longlife) that given the extra protection required by a PD cam lobe & the fact I'll be still changing the oil at every 6000 miles is this a better bet at a cheaper pricwe ???

That should be fine, 5w-40 should also be fine for the car.

What model is it?

Cheers

Guy.

Thanks to answer Carpathian & Oilman it is a 110 Bhp TDI. As for "I don't think so" ....................not sure what this is refering to ?

I hope its not a "bit thin"...............I'm currently using as I said above Mobil 1 which is 0W40. I wasn't so much worried re the viscosity but moreso the quality of the Oil
