From the dealers i picked up some transmission fluid for a Cupra R 225 2004 which isnt G51 but G 052 171 A2 is this still compatible? although its a bit late as its already in there.

VW G 052 171 - Gearbox oil SAE 70W/75.

VW G 51 - Special synthetic gear oil SAE 75W/90.

70W/75 seems thin for a 225BHP gearbox, if it starts feeling rough after its warmed up then try something like this > http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-981-fuc...w-80-synthetic-manual-transmission-fluid.aspx

Oh dear, if its what a dealer has supplied i feel a bit annoyed as its a waste of my money for expensive fluid and my time changing it. Will wear be increased? think id rather change it back sooner rather than later

Hard to say if wear will be increased. Without knowing what oil it is, and not knowing what extreme pressure package is in there its hard to say.

Ask them why they put a 70w/75 in. See what they say and report back here.

Does your gearbox feel nice with this 70w/75 in?

Warning: power steering fluid as filled up by factory is not the green stuff (G 004 000) currently sold by VAG dealers, it's standard yellow fluid. To fill up with green fluid the entire system has to be drained and flushed. I had to top up (it was at minimum level) and used normal yellow fluid
