So I put my foot down in 2nd gear...

... and there was a big clunk/bang, like when you drive over a pothole. Now, my car drives much better, feels better on power, and the MPG on the way home was normal, except I was booting it a fair bit more than usual, so would have been higher (I was enjoying the extra power).

I had seen a slight drop in MPG recently (around 4-6mpg, but only so little because I'd adjusted to try and maximize), and it didn't feel great on power.

I was thinking that when I put my foot down, either 1 of 2 things had happened.

1. I'd cleared some dirt through the system, however, most of my driving is motorway driving at 70mph. My DPF doesn't get clogged, so what, if anything, could be clogged? EGR or something else? The only points to note is that I add Millers Diesel EcoMax to fuel, and the past 3 tanks have been ASDA fuel (as it's only what was near).

2. I'd suspected that the brakes may have been sticking for the past few days because I'd seen a drop in MPG, and it felt as though when I took my foot off the accelerator, I was slowing down quicker than usual. The noise sounded as though it may have been binding brakes releasing (based on the clunk my old car made when the handbrake got stuck on and then released)

Anyone shed any light on what it possibly could have been?

I'm not worried by it, just would like to know for future reference to see if I can avoid it

Cheers guys.
