My reverse light was not working. We discovered to broken wires from the plug which connects to the switch. We obtained another plug from a scrappy and joined the wires. Just incase we changed the switch as well. Now the reverse light stays on permanently when the ignition is turned on. Any idea's please. Thanks in advance.

No stays on all the time in any gear. We tried reversing the wires but no change. Might be an idea to take the switch back ???

Like Badger says, or with the new plug unplugged from the switch, switch ignition on, are lights off - if so okay, if lights on, you have a short in the new bit of wiring. If the lights stay off, using maybe a paperclip, connect both wires in the plug together - ie push the ends of the paperclip into the unplugged connector, that should bring the reversing light on when the ignition is on. After that, if this second outcome goes okay, the switch(s) are u/s. Though I'd doubt that if the wire had been broken prior to this as that, ie the wiring should be the only problem.
