Fit a glove box light. Mk4 Ibiza.

This is how I did mine.
I'm not responsible if you wreck the car you're working on!

Thanks to BlackFR for inspiring this.

I've just fitted a glove box light in my MK4 Ibiza TDi FR.

Parts list.
3B0 947 415 B Lamp (1)
1J0 947 561 C Switch (1)
893 971 632 Housing (1)
1J0 973 119 Housing (1)
000 979 133 Wire (2)
000 979 131 Wire (2)

Including VAT the total was £17.43 (as of January 2007).
***********************************************************

Cut one of each wire type in half and join one half of each wire to make a single wire with a different fitting at each end.
Push the wires into the appropriate housings and then clip the housings into the switch and lamp.
I fitted an earth terminal to make things easier later on.

Because the lamp is polarised I connected the wires like this.
Note, because the housings only fit one way make sure you push the wires in correctly!

Prise off the end panel from the dash.

Look in at the top of the glove box. You will see a pre cut rectangle.
Push it out (glove box housing removed for photo).

From inside the glove box feed the wires and switch through the hole and snap the lamp into place.

Remove this screw, slip the earth terminal under the plastic trim, align holes and replace screw.

I used the live feed to my CD changer for power which I connected to using a scotch lock.
The changer is in my glove box so the supply is nice and close.
The wire I used is this one on my cable.

You can use the feed from the interior light but that means removing the interior light, passenger door A-pillar trim and routing a wire behind the headlining.

Doing it this way means you only remove one trim panel.

Hope this helps someone.

Guy.

Got all the parts required for installation... so can confirm that exactly what Joonsoon has listed is the exact parts and quantity you require.

Will be fitting on Saturday. :)

Great guide, I would love to fit the glove box light in my car but not sure as to where I can get a feed from. I have curtain airbags so cannot run one down the A pillar from the interior light, I have no CD changer so can't take one from that, and I don't really want to have to remove the centre console. Is there any other way I could do it?
