Dad's car history from when he started being an owner/driver in 1966...

1959 Vauxhall Victor 'F' saloon (1600) - 3 speeder, rusted fast

1963 Ford Consul Cortina saloon (1200) - rusted and a poor starter

1966 Hillman Imp saloon (875) - reliable but too small for new family, (me)

1965 Vauxhall Victor 'FB' 101 estate (1600) - bigger and mostly ok, I remember this onwards

1968 Vauxhall Victor 'FD' SL estate (2000) - cool family bargain with potent OHC engine

1971 BL Morris Minor van (1100) - ex GPO Telephones cheapie to save fuel costs

1969 BL Morris 1300 saloon (1275) - quite nice, needed quickly to replace dead van

1968 BL Morris Minor van (1100) - eventually donated parts for old van

1975 Ford Escort Mk.2 basic estate (1300) - really basic, but sort of modern

1979 FIAT Mirafiori CL estate (1600) - huge improvement, his first with 5 speeds *

1984 (new) Lada '21026' 1500 DL estate (1450) - first new car, surprisingly good **

1987 (new) Lada Riva 1300 estate (1300) - nowhere near as good as previous one **

1989 Lada Riva 1300 estate (1300) - ex minicab he bought without my knowledge!

1993 (ex demo) Skoda Favorit LX estate (1300) - quite nice, but gutless **

1997 Skoda Felicia LX estate (1300) - bit better all round, but engine died early *

1999 Citroen Xsara SX Picasso (2000 Diesel) - his mate's ex-company car bargain **

1988 Jaguar XJ-S coupe (3600) - extra 'flash' car I bought him for his 60th birthday **

2004 Citroen Xsara LX hatch (2000 HDi) - he liked this one for over 8 years, (I didn't much) *

1993 Porsche 968 Tiptronic coupe (3000) - extra 'flash' car we still jointly own **

2018 (new) SEAT Leon SE Dynamic hatch (1200) - his first 6 speeder, time will tell... **

* Cars that I researched and had some influence in him choosing, ** Cars I researched and had a lot of influence in choosing

You think that little lot is a weird list, I won't even start on mine

My hot hatch journey is proceeded by economic diesels due to mileage.

Started at 17 in 2000 with a an F reg 1.0 Nissan Micra (had a central dash speaker which is more than I can say for my 280 . Only one wing mirror though)

Overfilled that with oil so sold it sharpish and bought an H reg one!

Move on to my first Seat, an R reg 1.4 Ibiza SE. Pimped it up a bit with a big sound system that took up my whole boot!

Sold that after a couple of years and for 4 weeks I had a 1.3MG Metro. Handled like a go kart!

Then got my second Ibiza, 1.9tdi S. had it for years and it didn’t let me down once. Brilliant little car but had no air con.

Then bought a Ford Focus 1.8tdci Sport. I had this car seven years and I loved it. Didn’t see many of them around either.

Traded that in for another Ibiza, 1.6tdi Sportrider. Only had it 8 months as I just couldn’t gel with it. It was too small after having the focus.

Traded that for an Astra 2.0 diesel SRI. Really nice car but was constantly going into the garage! Decided to sell it and the following weekend the alternator packed up in Bristol (I live in Dover!). Slightly frustrating and £700 to repair!

Bought a workhorse Audi A4 SE 1.9tdi pd whilst I was doing up my house and garden to do tip runs etc. 160k miles on the clock but worked without fault for 9 months and I sold it for the same money I bought it for

Now in my 280 DSG which I absolutely love! My first hot hatch and it’s a good one. Bought it from a broker in Warrington so I had a nice long drive home in it after I picked it up. Foot down out the M6 toll booths was fun but slightly terrifying for the first time

Ford Focus ST225. Had it a year and loved driving it. Didn't love how quickly the fuel needle seemed to move down though.

Same here, no matter how you drove it either, just drank the fuel silly for the power it had.

MK1 Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec (2003)
Vauxhall Astra SRi J/MK6 2.0 CDTi (Remapped to 200BHP )
Now - MK2 Seat Leon SE Copa 1.2Tsi (Due a remap)

Really miss the Astra in all honesty . Mind, my mam had the 1.4 N/A Excite model and let's just say the name certainly didn't match how damn slow the car was, slowest car I've ever been in!!
