Looking for a top spec Exeo ST 170

Hi all. I'm currently looking for a new car. The exeo ST fits my needs perfectly and I like that it is a good quality, practical and still quite sporty motor. I have an Audi TT 3.2 at the moment and it's time for a change. If anyone has one for sale that is a top spec car (preferebly in black with the 170bhp tdi engine) please get in touch. I've been to see one down in Exeter (250 miles away!) And it was a lemon. Really bad paintwork and could just tell the car had been abused. Also if anyone knows of any problems or things that I should be aware of when looking for one it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :D

Have you done any research into the 170tdi engine, from what I have read the 143 is a much more flexible engine, if you get one go for the Tech version, lots of extras for little price increase

I have and I am aware that they have DPF issues. Should the issues arise however, I have a mechanic friend that could sort this out for me. I have driven both the 140 and 170 engines and I just prefer the performance of the 170. I dont think that there is much difference in economey either. I would like the SE Lux model as it has all the mod cons and would be easier to sell. Cheers.

If your mechanic friend can "sort" any DPF issue then maybe they could also remap a 140 up to 170. If you calculate this into the purchase price it may help you find the right car a whole lot easier. Just a thought.

I've got one that I was going to sell, but I'm now in two minds. I upgraded to a slightly bigger beast but have a lovely 11 plate Exeo ST Tech Pack 170PS (upgraded with Bluefin to 190PS or more), FSH and its just had a major service @ SEAT. Off the top of my head its on 55K, Bose, rear airbags, Black leather interior with Piano black inlay, Xenon's and LED rear lights, Sports suspension, 19" rims, dark metallic blue (sorry I forget the name of the colour).

I'm looking for offers over 7.5K as I don't need to sell it.

Any chance of a picture mate? Does it have heated seats? Cheers.

Problem with 170 model is that is has lower gearing to make it suitable for towing, also affecting consumption and road tax, however a 143 model, chipped to 170 will have none of those issues, just saying...
SE Lux does seem more common trim level on 170 though

I debated between the 143 and 170 but heard and read more issues from the 143 engine like the injectors being a common fault etc. Bought the 170 ST and it's awesome. Touch wood but I've had no issues with the DPF and I'm on 67k miles. I do rev it pretty much through most of the gears to give the exhaust a good blow out so to speak rather than drive economically and be in 6th gear before 40mph!! With this in mind and I drive a 50:50 mix of A roads and motorways I still get a decent 550 miles out of a full tank.

While having my 143 remapped to 170 the VAG specialist doing the job told me the only real difference between a factory 143 and 170 was a larger turbo on the 170 and obviously the map used.

I'm no expert and don't know any different than what I'm told, but what I do know is that as a stock 143 my Exeo ST felt very tall geared due to its' lack of power at low revs. Now the remap has been carried out the car no longer feels that way and pulls smoothly and a lot harder at all revs. The transformation is incredible!

Commuting on A roads to work and back now returns an average of 43MPG and on a decent motorway run that figure is between 50 and 60MPG.

Hope this helps with your decision Sykosyksi

Ill probably map the 170 version mate. I just think that for the extra performance that you get, its worth the slight downfall in economey. Cheers for the insight though mate, its all appreciated.

it all depends on your budget, theres a few kicking around, I have a Nevada white 170 Sport Tech, however if you are after heated seats you are looking for the hens teeth thats for sure.

Also you will find most have stone chips on the front, mines done 47k on a 12 plate and theres a few on the front, its a product of the flat front which is to do with pedestrian protection and emissions via aero dynamics, you will notice alot of modern cars seem prone to stone damage.

After further digging it looks like the model i want is the SE Lux model. Theres one on auto trader now for just over 7k but it doesnt have Bose I deffo want the 170, ive driven it and its a lovely engine. Just enough punch. I think it will be worth holding out for the right car.

Yes he does, in dark blue with a Bluefin fitted for 190 + ... but he seems to have passed on the opportunity of a rather good one!

Mines still for sale, but its got to be the right price because I know how its been looked after since new. I don't need to sell it as we are just going to keep it as a 2nd car once we move (hopefully before September!).

I have just bought a 143 and was surprised by the power banding in it compared to my 130pd Leon that I also have.
Your comments on the remap have certainly put ideas in my head ;)
